Mullen is good for an 8-15 finish each year in recruiting, but there could even be years outside the top 15. I mean let's call it what it is, the guy can't close. I am actually more intrigued by who he can bring in via transfers, because he appears to have a knack for that. But for recruiting, I'm becoming more and more bored with it. We're going to be in Mark Richt territory and a bunch of us called it before the hire.

I'm just happy to see a beat writer/reporter have the balls to call out the mediocre recruiting instead of waiting until the coach gets fired.

It's really sad. We can all see what's coming. I'm gonna enjoy next while I can. After that it's probably gonna be a shcit show again.

I really don’t think we’ll ever see a sh*tshow under Mullen because he won’t have his teams quit on him like Butters or Chump. He’ll have enough talent to be competitive but if he doesn’t get this recruiting piece fixed he won’t ever compete for titles unless he lucks into a Heisman type QB. I hope someone gets his attention and he realizes he won’t make it long-term at UF recruiting like this.

The extreme negativity currently coming from some quarters is just so over the top (you know who you are) it's getting hard to even have a rational discussion with the haters. Anyone who is seriously writing DM off as "Mark Richt 2.0" at this point is either nursing a grudge because they didn't like the hire in the first place, or has no idea of what the hell they're talking about. I'm not saying that there's not room for serious improvement in recruiting, but the dire predictions of certain failure are idiotic. DM did not inherent a smoothly running machine with a conference contender's roster. Repairing the damage done to a program that had literally been run into the ground for the last decade is not an overnight project. IMHO, DM is doing as much, as quickly, as anyone reasonably could. But that won't keep the haters from hating - even a 10 or 11 win record with a 5-7 ranked recruiting class this year won't shut many of you up. End of rant.

Im not one of them but lets face it, Mullen is having a hard time closing on 5 star talent and many in state kids are going elsewhere. This cant be ignored.

I really don't disagree with that obvious truth. It's the lunatic assertions/insinuations that there has been no improvement at all in the overall talent/recruiting and that DM is predestined to fail - based largely on the decision of one recruit. That's what I'm calling BS on. Recruiting has to continue to improve, everyone agrees on that. Saying that it absolutely will not happen and that DM is destined to fail is something else again.

It’s not one recruit. It’s one after the other along with huge whiffs at positions of need. Stick your head in the sand if you choose, but the problems in recruiting are real and GLARING!
I’m not giving up on him and I hope like hell he gets this fixed quickly, but if he doesn’t he won’t be here more than 5 years. Reality is a b*tch.

The latest "fail" does, IMO seem to have brought out the worst in some posters. And although I too want to get these top players as much as anyone, giving up on DM at this point is just plain stupid. And for the record, I've already said there's need for continued improvement in recruiting including upgrading the staff - look at my previous posts if don't believe me. But I DO NOT accept the "he is already a failure" and is nothing more than MR take 2 stuff. And as far as reality is concerned, expecting an instant turn-around after a decade of debilitating incompetence is EXTREMELY UNREALISTIC in and of itself. One way or another, some of us are going to have some serious crow on the menu in the next 2 or 3 years.

History tells us either you can recruit at an elite level or you can’t. I can’t recall any coaches that suddenly got good at recruiting other than Dabo...can you?
Reality is if he doesn’t fix this issue quickly he won’t make it at UF.

For the record, I'm not in panic mode yet. I believe Mullen can kick Kirby's @ss with a roster full of his kind of 4* players that fit his system. Kirby proves year after year he's not an elite coach. Mullen is an elite coach. At some point, the kids will figure that out and stop defecting to Bama/Clemson/OSU and the likes. Mullen ain't Muschamp or MacElstain. He can develop and coach. I was one of the ones that hated the hire too. He made a believer out of me by what he accomplished with our bunch of misfits last year.

Yeah, but that's not the kind of crap I have repeatedly referred back to in this thread. It's the "it's already over" crowd that I take exception to. Reality is he's absolutely got work to do, but it ain't over yet - not by a long shot. And I'll go with your Dabo example of the "average" recruiter becoming an "elite" recruiter - with on major caveat: Dabo took a few years of rebuilding the Clemson brand before becoming "elite," and the way he did that was by winning with what he had. But admittedly, even if DM does land a top five class this year, and he does win 10-11 games, the nay-saying will still go on as if nothing positive has happened - and that's reality too.
