Sammon referenced Grantham saying that if McWilliams or Huggins don’t return, Lenton, Moon, Burney and Diabate are the replacements. Burney is the most likely, but to even mention the other 3 makes me shyte bricks.

All the best defenses are built with nothing but CBs and DE/OLB hybrids. Just kidding.

Given that I dont like a defense with three corners against all our running opponents anyway, this doesn't bother me much.

Burney will do fine back there. Or maybe Burney at star with Trey Dean at safety (I like that), bigger star in the box on the run plays when we play against running teams (every game except Mizzu).

Moon is safety sized. I just can't imagine him playing star. Did Grantham really say this or was Sammon drunk. Maybe he meant Moon in place of Burney... which will suck.

Diabete at star (really just an OLB with more cover) would work against everyone not named Mizzu.

Or Elam at star corner. Yes a freshman can play corner just fine and Elam is the right freshman.

While we are shuffling, let's make Cleveland a starting safety. That's what he is playing in the NFL anyway.

At the star position. I mean, can’t you see Moon doing well there?

It depends. If you expect the star/sam backer to play man on the third receiver, no. But if you let a safety do that and leave the star/sam in the box, obviously, yes.

You’re right. It’s just doesn’t seem to be there with him. What’s really maddening is that with guys like Stiner or Lenton when they struggle it kind of makes sense because they weren’t heavily recruited. But with Taylor, we had to go 12 rounds to keep Smart and Tucker from stealing him. It was reported that he was an immediate target when they took over and that he’d wanted him at Alabama but Saban didn’t. So I don’t know if he’s just a bust(even as a high 3/low4* guy) or if it’s something to do with our teaching and developing. But he doesn’t belong on the field and any article touting him has completely gone off the rails.

Are you thinking of the other J Taylor? Trailerbammer chased him.

You kow JEAWON Taylor was a low 3 star we stole from South Alabama, Arkansas State and FIU, right? Jeawon Taylor, 2016 Safety - Rivals.com

Taylor is a standout tackler and physical presence with good awareness in coverage. Taylor lacks exceptional speed and eye-popping physical tools, but his instincts are special. He averaged 7.6 tackles and totaled seven interceptions during his final two high school seasons.
Recruiting report says "lacks eye popping skills". :lmao2: Dead on.

24th ranked safety in the state of Trailerbammer? In the STATE. He probably on got a third star bc we signed him.

Or am I missing the sarcasm font? Probably.

These scenarios would seem to get the most talent on the field and, with Burney at star, would get us much bigger against the run. I seem to recall though that @ltraz thinks Burney doesn’t have the hips for that nickel spot. Have you made this assessment based on film or just his size? Would we actually adjust our defense and play a true Star instead of a nickel?

While many on here would like to see it, especially since Miami is likely going to rely on its RB and TE’s a lot in Enos’s System (especially with so many QB questions and our CB strength), I doubt we will based solely on what we did last year.

The only reason I have some hope of seeing more of a true 7 man front against Miami is Grantham matches personnel a lot and Enos may play less 11/3wide than some of our other opponents. At Bama he went 3wide predominantly, but that was really their strength with Tua and the WR group. But with personnel more like Miami’s, at both CMU and R-Kansas, he predominantly ran 12 personnel pro sets.

Problem is, no one is seeing any of this in the practice reports.

No, I’m serious. Believe it or not, uga was infatuated with him and thought they had him flipped until NSD. And there were pics of basically the entire staff at his house trying to land him. Guess I was wrong on the star rating. Thought he was a low-4. But it was definitely a battle. No idea how McElwain actually beat Smart in a recruitment.

The eye-popping quote is perfect.

I love you man. Seriously.

It was Jawaan Taylor the tackle for whom they made a late run after they noticed his weight loss and game play.

Jeawon plays a lot like Kirby Smart. I could see the infatuation.

The only reason we offered Taylor was because he was best friends with mac wilson, hoping if we got Taylor, Wilson would follow, and you see how that turned out :headslap:
