UCLA squashed by San Diego State; will Chip Kelly survive the season?

Nope. We may as well have just merged with Knoxville at that point and decide on a mutually acceptable mascot. Because that's what we would've become. As I've said before, we absolutely could not afford to get it wrong again, so I had serious reservations about him here. And yet, we almost did. As much as I've been pleased with the Mullen hire, I'm not sure Stricklin didn't just fall into it. That's the scary part.
Well.....if nothing else, Mullen stopped the bleeding and breathed new life into the program. He very well may not be the long term answer, but out of Kelly, Frost, Mullen and Taggart, it’s clear that we got the best coach out of those four.

Must agree

After the lost ChumpElwain error wouldn't anybody not named Taggert been a step up? I'm sure we could have found a better recruiter.

I don’t think Kelly would have been a step up. The only difference would have been him mailing it in in sunny Fla instead of sunny So Cal.

Chip Kelly will soon be appearing at weddings and bar mitzvahs, although I hear his act is getting a bit old. Oh, and apparently he can't recruit any better than DM - and that's putting it mildly.

It's just that these coaches are paid ungodly amounts of money. It's a hard job, but the pay reflects that. When I see a school show huge faith in a guy and stroke him huge checks, it just makes me sick to see them be lazy. The vast majority of the coaches out there work 80+ hour weeks, but there are a handful of asshats who need to be imprisoned for grand theft. These schools need to stop standing for it. FIRE KELLY RIGHT NOW FOR CAUSE and tell that fat ass to sue you if he doesn't like it. Send a message.

I always dreamed about the Oregon Chip Kelly - not this zombie who was spoiled by the NFL and doesn't have the decency to resign from a job he doesn't (nor ever did) want.

You didn’t inspire me on this issue, but you did get there first. The amount of money being spent by universities in this country on coaches who no longer work there is obscene.

Which is why he should be fired for cause, escorted off campus and given a kick on his fat ass for good measure. Then UCLA should sue him to try and recoup his salary. He’s a thief.
Nine out of ten of us wanted that thief in the Orange and Blue. Oh My!.

Chip Kelly's buyout is simple: If fired without cause during the first four years of the contract, he is owed $9 million. That's far less than the $12 million buyout owed to former head coach Jim Mora, who in 2017 collected 80 percent of his remaining salary in a contract that ran through the 2021 season.

Just saying we almost hired that charlatan, masquerading as the 'Oregon Chip Kelly.' We probably would have thrown him a welcome home parade and given him 6Mil a year. Now, I'm thinking Oregon Chip is a mythological coach.

Yes, most here wanted UF to back up the Brinks truck and pay whatever it took to get him. People were talking Saban money. I also remember how pissed everyone was that UF sent the A-Team out to meet with him and came home with no contract and no Chip Kelly on the plane. Folks were talking about all the egg on our face. Just imagine the egg on our face if we had hired that dude. We REALLY dodged a bullet.

Jim Mora, who UCLA fired, is 50 times the coach Chip Kelly is. This really is a disaster.
