Nice get. He'll have to redshirt unless he can add some serious weight.

Maybe WG has some weight gain recommendations...you know, before Clayton is actually under NCAA jurisdiction?

My daughter cheers for PHS so I've been to all the games. This kid is good, he was everywhere against Menendez. Heard from some others at the last game say he had a couple of SEC offers, not sure if it's true.

Might be his small school, but he's only a 2-star on Rivals - https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Eron-Carter-157428
I know, I know, stars don't matter. His best offers appear to Air Force and UMass right now. Maybe he's an unknown diamond in the rough, but being so close to Gainesville you'd think our staff have at least heard of him. Maybe so, maybe not.

Honestly his technique is horrible. More than half his tackles would've been whiffs on good running backs that can power through arm tackles, because that's what he's doing out there. Arm tackling. You can't grab 220-230lb SEC RBs and sling them to the ground. They run right thru that crap. No offense aka, but there's a good reason he's only a 2* based on what I saw in that highlight film. Not once did he square up his shoulders, wrap up and drive through the tackle with his legs. Not once. Every time he reaches out and grabs them with his arms from behind or beside and just throws them down. That won't work in the SEC.

On one kickoff he just uses his forearms to knock the runner down. Didn't even try to wrap him up. That's a classic cocky kid who knows he's the biggest kid in the neighborhood so just uses his size rather than proper technique because he can get away with it. The bigger schools probably won't even give him a second look. I'm surprised any SEC teams have offered him.

Heard he's a good kid, definitely not cocky. Probably a lack of good coaching which, as we've seen this year, can be corrected. He'll be fine, he's getting some attention.

He looks like a speed rush specialist, I wonder if he can play any LB, or maybe hybrid DE/LB position?
I'm sure all the scouting services and coaches are wrong. Just get a memo to Mac and he will get the kid moved to his correct position.

Thanks for all your expertise, Crete.

I didn't say he would or should play LB, I was wondering if he played a hybrid position since his video only showed him rushing the passer. As far as the recruiting services go it would never happen for them to call a HS player 6'2" 220# when in reality they are 6'0" 205#. As far as our coaches go I trust they are better at determining a players best position than the last guys who let Ronald Powell believe he was a true DE for 4 years.

Of course, Ro Po was not a DE, and no one else could see it. Now I think, however, he would have served us better as a TE or receiver than a LB, but either change would have been an improvement.

Let it go, Ancient.
RoPo to TE would have been moot as the previous staff obviously thought the TE position was just for blocking - During RoPos time at UF, the previous staff managed to run off some pretty good TEs in Gerald Christian (2010), AC Leondard (2011) and the top two ranked TEs in Taylor and Thompson (2012), putting converted DEs (Burton and Westbrook) in the position. Given the previous staff's lack of knowledge on how to use a TE that could catch, RoPo was likely more valuable for us on the defensive side of the ball.

Where are they now:
Christian - Mr. Irrelevant in 2015 (selected last in the draft by the Cardinals) - tore his MCL in the final preseason game and out for the season
Leonard - Drafted by the Vikings in 2014 - now playing in the CFL
Taylor - playing for Charlie Cheeseburger at Kansas (9 catches and 1 TD through 5 games in what is incredibly his RS Sophomore year)
Thompson - playing for Temple (only 1 catch so far this year) - he's a RS Junior
Burton - listed as being on the Bills as a TE (no stats - not listed on roster or practice squad)
Westbrook - listed as being on the Bucs as a TE (no stats - listed on practice squad)

You are correct in every detail. I thought that I had let it go, but Crete brought it up and I had never seen a post saying Ro Po played out of position. My memory was that everyone thought he was wonderful at DE.

As of 3 minutes ago, the Eagles website still has Trey Burton listed as their #3 TE, behind Celek & Ertz. Don't know if he has played a lot, but he made some noise in the pre-season.

FYI - I was talking about Clay Burton - Trey gets a tackle every now and on Eagle's special teams unit.

I have to agree his technique needs work. Plays very tall out of his stance and does not bring his hips into the tackles. Does have a good get off step and to me looked better when he was at dt. Great measurables, and hope the staff can get him to be an all american.

Creyer's staff made Powell play OLB a little in his freshmen year which I believe was the reason he got home sick. He actually played the position pretty well the last few games of the year. As a DE end he was only effective against sub par teams and struggled against SEC offensive linemen. Should have stayed a LB his whole time here IMO.

Oh, and RoPo's status:
Powell was listed as the 15th ranked OLB and projected to be a 5th round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.[SUP][2][/SUP] The New Orleans Saints drafted Powell in pick 196 in round 5. He played in 14 games during the 2014 season. The Saints released him on September 1, 2015;[SUP][3][/SUP] after he cleared waivers, he was placed on the Saints' injured reserve list.[SUP][4][/SUP]
