College football without fans is completely pointless. Playing in silence? Just cancel the damn season!
I agree, but they are going to promote it and fight tooth-and- nail to get some semblance of a season to be played.
The question is why?
And there is also the question of bringing students back to campus. If students are not coming back to campus, and there will be no attendance permitted at games, then what is the point?
I think the biggest issue is eligibility; if players are allowed to sit out the season and afforded another year of eligibility, then there is no point in playing the games.
The only solution that makes sense is to play whatever schedule possible, and if a player opts out then they lose a year of eligibility. If a player tests positive for Covid19, and they miss more than 2 games, then they can apply for a medical redshirt.
It really depends on how many games will ultimately be played, and nobody knows that for sure.
But if a player opts out without being tested positive, then they should keep their scholarship but lose a year of eligibility.
Of course that will probably never happen, but it would at least solve some of the issues. There needs to be a compromise on both sides.
However, I don't see how we can have a season if one player tests positive and the entire team has to quarantine for two weeks. In that event, chances are that the entire season will be cancelled.
