The problem with the UAA was that under Foley they would contribute money ($8-10M) to the academic side of the school instead of spending it to improve facilities. So now we have a crunch of outdated facilities that needed to be upgraded. The other major problem is that we no longer have the big, deep pocket alumni we used to have. We're having a hard time raising money for the standalone football facility. The third thing is that the University is indifferent to the football program. Their main emphasis is the research funds to the tune of $800M that flow to the university every year. Anything that interferes with that, like athletes embarrassing the university, Title IX cases, etc is frowned upon. They think of the athletic program and in particular the football program as an annoyance.
