So what?
I know the narrative is that our outstanding class is going to flee like rats and we should be hand-wringing in advance, but so far none of that has happened. These guys take visits to other schools all the time. If I was him, I wouldn’t want to go to a Vandy game either.
Because this is how it happens. It’s why you can’t put garbage on film 4 out of 5 Saturdays, lose in embarrassing fashion and have national media calling you out. Recruiting is about momentum. Case in point, look at how we started trending in late 2005, specifically ending on a high note against the noles. We’re not gaining any momentum on the field, and any time we do we’ve immediately given it back. You can’t just keep talking about “building” and “process” while stumbling to 6-6 seasons. Not with who we face in recruiting and with the type of sought after kids we’re pursuing. It won’t work. And this won’t be an isolated case and isn’t already.
No, I think the core of the class will remain, but it’s a zero sum game and if we lose even a few more commits, it will swing things real quick. And no, it’s not good when a kid decides the week after a blowout loss to Uk that he’s not coming up and will visits rival that’s been on him the last few months and is 4-0.
My guess is if we lose him, we are probably clinging to a Top-10 finish with Ala, uga, A&M, tenn, Lsu, fsu and miami all in front of us. Considering any notion of game day coaching advantage waved bye bye a long time ago, what exactly are we hanging onto at that point?
