The bigger point is there simply aren’t more than two, maybe three, teams that deserve to play for it all in any given year. We keep insisting that there are, yet quite conclusive evidence continues to show otherwise.
And that’s the problem. Setting aside the huge money-making angle to this whole thing, it only takes an occasional “deserving” but #3 ranked team being left out to get people to scream “we need a playoff!” Since this thing expanded, how often has there been a year where people thought any of the four teams could really win it?

The same people pushing for an expanded playoff are also whining that there are too many garbage bowls. For many people, “life” is simply too much to handle.
Just heard this EXACT commentary from my BIL a couple days ago.

Cincy no where competitive. It was like Bammer was just going to plan a typical work day, hope for no injuries, and tune up for UGAly. Watching the first drive it was like.......so you want to play big boy Football. Well, you're gonna be my bytch for the next 60 minutes. Outmanned, outsized, out schemed, out everything. And most of all Cincy was knocked out. Should have never been in the Semi's.

How many teams out there would beat Cincinnati had they played them during the regular season.?
Cincy would have been culled out before the first quarter ended.
