Andreu: How they'll line up (depth chart)

Andreu's projections. He doesn't project the incoming players into the depth chart (just listed at the bottom). He has a few that I'd move around (Powell would not be returning KO's if I was the ST's coach) and he has Riles as a 2nd team OG (which makes me happy).

http://andreu.blogs.gatorsports.com/11304/how-they’ll-line-up-in-august/

This is the time of year when you see everyone’s way-too-early top 25 for the upcoming season. I’m not going to go there. But what I have done is come up with a way-too-early depth chart for the Florida Gators, who likely won’t put their own out until the week before the opener.

In my way-too-early depth chart, I’ve included the incoming freshmen who were not here in the spring with the 12 early enrollees and the two suspended players — Treon Harris and Antonio Callaway. I have a strong feeling that one (Callaway) will be back this summer, and maybe both, so I’m listing them.

Here it is, my way-to-early depth chart for the Gators:

Cece without question is one of our best players. This imbecile has him as a backup.

Don't rely too much on what Andreu says. Alot of his stuff is obvious but GS pretty much sucks when it comes to trying to get into depth.

Yeah, there's a handful of questionable choices there. I'm just thrilled to see the #2 at every OL position isn't a starter at another OL position. Our depth has improved a little.

Kylan Johnson at MLB? :wtf:
Andreu doesn't know shyt about football. That's been obvious for a long time.

I'm sure when Anzalone goes out, Jarrad moves to Mike and Kylan comes in at Will. I hope Kylan looks as good in games as he did in the spring. I suspect that Maye is probably our 3rd Mike, just like last year. Maybe even Cristian Garcia (who looked pretty good in the Spring Game). It's a lot to expect for a rookie like Reese to be the QB on defense. We really need Jackson, Joseph and Moon to develop in a hurry. They need to be in the weight room and in the film room. We can't miss on those guys and couple were stretches.

I'm also sure that they will use a rotation up front on defense and maybe they will go slightly heavier on first down (assuming a coach who runs on first down). There really isn't a difference between DT and DE in this defense when we are in a 3 man front (just motioning the TE may well change who is playing what), so it doesn't matter.

Ce Ce is probably our best DL though Brantley can be a game changer when his head is in the game.

We have too many of the little DE/ tweeners rush specialists, Cox, Sherit, Davis, Reed, Smith, Polite and Clayton. I think Cox continues to get the most reps. Hopefully Polite and Clayton develop because the others are just fillers. I hope a few are encouraged to move on this year if they don't develop.

Big eating NTs just don't exist on our roster. We will struggle in the middle against the better SEC lines.

I agree although Cox has at least developed enough size and strength to be a every down player. Certainly he is a little better rushing the passer than stuffing the line on running plays. I think he ends up being a lot like Jermaine Cunningham for us this year.....A solid 4-3 DE who gets a lot of TFL and QB pressures/sacks. I believe he lead the team last year....Sherit and Reed have Duke Lemmons written all over them. In fact Sherit should really being playing LBer because he doesn't have near enough ass on him to fight with opposing OT's although he runs pretty well for his size. Polite will most likely develop kind of like Cox. He may end up pretty good but it'll take 2 or 3 years for that to happen, same with Clayton.
Our personnel tells me we'll have to play a lot more 4 man fronts over the next couple of years. It just is what it is until we start landing some true space eating NT/DT types who would allow the LBer's to clean up everything around them.

I'd think our starting lineup would be close to this....
QB - LDR
RB - Cronkrite
TE - Lewis
OT - Sharpe
OG - Ivey
C - McCoy
OG - Jordan
OT - Johnson
WR - Callaway
WR - Cleveland or Hammond by the 3rd game
Slot - Massey

Assuming a 4-3
DE - Jefferson
DT - Brantley
DT - Ivie
DE - Cox
LB - Davis
LB - Anzalone
LB - Johnson
CB - Tabor
CB - Wilson
FS - Dawson
SS - Maye

I agree. I love Cox, lotsa heart and motor, just acknowledging that he is physically a bit limited. I'd take another dozen of those guys and play them in several positions.

I guess, but we don't really have many true DEs either. CeCe is already being force to move inside and he is 10 lbs lighter than Dante Fowler. Just too undersized and too many of those "bucks" that Chimp loved so much.

With today's OLs (not ours but real SEC OLs) I think you are looking for 270-290 lbs at end and 310-320 at DT. We get fooled by our poor OL into thinking we are good on the DL, like last year when people thought Sherit and Taven Bryan were future stars because they destroyed our own 1st team OL at will.
