I can name 2 Qb's that played at UF their Fr year and panned out just fine Leak, and Tebow played meaningful snaps both won us a championship as well. I'm not saying he should start but get him snaps to get a feel for the game

Leak did play very well as a freshman QB. But Tebow as a freshman was, functionally, a third-down specialist fullback. I don't recall that he started any games, and he only attempted 33 passes for the year.

The power of statistics is that they help one make informed decisions based on both what's likely to happen and what's not likely to happen. The fact that there are some unusual outliers like Chris Leak that stick in the mind doesn't alter the general truth that true freshmen QBs usually play at a level that loses games.

But I would hope that when/if our offense gets to the point that we have 2 to 3 TD leads over our opponents in the 4th quarter, we'll see some of the backup QBs getting some game reps.

These will be my last words on this subject, I'm already a good half-step into redundant and boring.

I was posting it because of the arm strength. It was with ease he flicked it 55 yards, don't act like you're not impressed.
I gave you a dislike just because I dislike your new name.

Makes me think you were a backup journalist even in high school.

I don't know if JC himself coming back would appease some of you! McElwain's been HC for 1 year now. To get stud QB's into your program you usually need at least 2 yrs as HC there since the stud QB's usually have that length of relationship with the program -ex Jake Allen, 2017 commit from STA for UF.

Mac has been able to poach Franks - 2nd or 3rd rated pro-style QB this year - from LSU. He took a flyer on Trask because Nussmeier thinks his upside is worth a scholly."Insiders" last year liked DelRio over Grier. Appleby brings game experience.

The position is already dramatically better than what UF had. Grier may have been thefuture but he royally fvkked up UF and himself in the process.

What more can you REASONABLY expect?

How is our qb position better? It doesn't look like we have a qb as good as grier on our roster.

Is this the way Grier actually performed? Or minus Kintucky, Mizzu and most of Tinerc.

Some of you seem to only remember the three good quarters he played.

LOL

T Rex called me a "One star poster" so I felt obligated to change my name to accurately reflect that.

I said it appears that we don't have a qb as good as grier. If that happens to be the case, how is the qb position better?

Probably don't just from the talent, ability and arm cannon he has. But...now that WG is gone and that left us the TH debable we are defintely better at QB now than we were from the LSU game on. Insiders thought Del Rio could push Grier and now that he is gone....should be no reason that Del Rio couldn't beat out Freon. In a way we are somewhat in a better situation. I never want to see TH line up at QB ever again....even if its in the Wildcat.

Rex -
Why so stubborn? Grier had a very good game against Ole Miss and a good last quarter at UT. He WAS developing and WAS clearly superior to Harris. Even at that however, Mac never gushed all over Grier like he did other players on the team. Maybe is was his lack of leadership skills or he and Dad's me-first attitude - we'll never know.

Grier is no longer at UF so forget about him. DelRio, Appleby and Franks are clearly better than Harris and Trask may prove to be. UF is better at QB than they were and Mac and his staff did a great job in shortly shoring up that position.

Agree w/ this. Grier's last game (missouri) was his most pathetic. Until we went 2-minute offense against Tennessee he was as bad as a typical Jeff Driskel game.

I'm glad to see us add a grad transfer...but I hope Del Rio wins the job and runs with it.

What are you guys going to do if Mac trots out Treon next year and says he's the best QB he has?
Hell then I will try to walk on (I might have some eligibility left). I could do a better job and I am no elite athlete. I can throw a great 10 yard out and a deep ball of 15 yards, so I am already better than Harris. I cannot sit by and watch another game with Harris as our only option at QB.

"...we don't have a qb as good as grier". We don't have grier. Start with accepting that fact.

Then take an honest look at what we do have, and what we know about them.
TH - sucks.
del Rio / Franks / Trask = no real college snaps to evaluate from so they are unknown.
Appleby = has had college snaps, but it is open to interpretation on how good he may be.
== Sucky TH and a lot of unknown potential.

Compared to an honest look at what we had, and what we know about them.
TH - sucked
del Rio = sitting out the year and unavailable.
Grady = bad enough that TH beat him out in practice.
Grier = disqualified and not available.
== TH as our only option.

Can you not agree that having "TH as our only option" is worse than where we are now of "TH and a lot of unknown potential"? At a minimum, we are right where we were last year with TH. Odds are, at least one of those other 4 is better than TH and by default we have improved and are better. That any of those four are worse than TH and we're still stuck with TH, that is a possibility, however small the chance it exists, but we are no worse than last year and by all reasonable assumptions we are better at QB even without any of those four taking a snap as yet.

Uh, no, you are mistaken. I posted the link strictly as info and if anything it was meant to counter all the whining about this guy who actually may be able to help us. The article clearly points out the possibility his talent may have been poorly coached. But we as Gators don't know anything about that, would we? Geez...

Sorry...that was a misquote. I was responding to something T-Rex had said...can't remember what exactly, considering it all pretty much sounds the same. I was on my phone and somehow quoted you only... That was not directed at you...my bad.
