Ok... I know there has to be some guys on here that are as fanatical about detailing their cars as I am. I think several have mentioned in the corvette thread they paint cars. So, what's your routine?

I bought my wife a new car on Friday. On Sunday, I did a Meguiar's clay bar treatment on the whole thing. I've read where there is so much grime and gook on there from the transportation and lot storage. I then did a Meguiar's compound treatment. Then their cleaner wax. Then their gold class carnuba wax. All by hand, no power tools. Look at this baby shine. Honda did a really nice job with this 2 tone pearl white.

You didn't use a clay bar first? :ugh:

I can do a lot of that crap, but it's extremely time consuming. I think I'm going to have a pro do the Corvette, as I don't have the energy.

Washing it, I hate. But I enjoy detailing it for some strange reason. I'm in the garage, drinking beer, listening to the radio. No kids, no wife.

So when you were poor and not raking it in from this website... what products did you use?

I'm pretty sure I use Meguire's products myself. I've got one of those dual action polishers with the different pads that velcro on.

Those scare me for some reason. I'm afraid I am going to damage the paint.

I own a truck. Pressure wash after the beach and let the rain do the rest.

In all seriousness, I usually do a clay bar and hand wax around September then again when I get a chance around 6 months later. Wash when it makes since to during rain season which is March-nov or so

I love washing and detailing my car. I use Meguiar's Gold class soap. Pretty cheap at 11 bucks for 60 ounces. Plus it is very thick so a little bit goes a long way. I use a grout sponge from Lowes. It is the best thing I have ever used to wash a car. Holds the soap really well and traps dirt high in the sponge fibers so it isn't scraping against the paint. They also rinse out really easy. They are about 2 bucks a piece.

I wash the car every Sunday morning. Wax once a month, and every 6 months I clay bar and put a sealant on the paint.

Funny, I also use a grout sponge.

What do you mean by sealant?

A sealant is a chemical compound that bonds to the car paint like a second clear coat. It lasts 6-9 months generally. They go on just like a wax. The downside is they don't give your car a nice deep shine like a carnuba will. The solution to that is put a sealant on every 6 months, and put a carnuba on top of the sealant. Can't put a sealant on top of a carnuna though.

I notice the Meguiar sealants have different numbers. 20, 135, 26.. 21. Do you know what those mean?

Nevermind... it doesnt mean anything. That is just their product number

I use Klasse All in One sealant. It's a little more expensive but it is really good stuff.
