The amazing thing is that Baylor hired this creep right at the very height of the fallout from one of the worst Basketball scandals in NCAA history occurring at their very school. The scandal involved, among other horrible things, a murder of a basketball player. At the time of his murder at the hands of his teammate, BB player Patrick Dennehy had been getting cash under-the-table from coach Dave Bliss so he could stay on the team without having to spend a scholarship. Bliss was being investigated about these payments and payments to one other teammate, which essentially gave them two extra "scholarships." After Dennehy was killed, Bliss smeared Dennehy by claiming he got the money to pay his tuition through dealing drugs. He secretly flew to New York to try to convince Dennehy's grieving mother to lie about the $18,000 her son had received from him, then he called the financial aid office pretending to be Dennehy's dad. Among the slew of Bliss's misdeeds that came out of the investigation and put Baylor basketball on probation for 5 years was a finding that he hid positive drug tests and lied to law enforcement during interviews about the murder, tampered with witnesses, did not report the several known threats made to Denney's life, and attempted extortion.

Honestly, sociopaths like Briles and Bliss make scum bags like Bobby Bowden and Tom Osborne look like pikers. It is absolutely unbelievable, given what HAD JUST OCCURRED, that a Christian college would not take better care of its students, or barring a complete lack of basic morality, at the very least its reputation.
