One coach took over 2 historically terrible teams with no talent. Another took over a bad team, got the AD to load the schedule with OOC creampuffs the 9 years he was there. It's why Mullen won 7-8 games on avg a year yet over got above 500 in SEC play once. I bet you flip the script and see how well both do.

Wow! Surprise.Misleading stat is misleading.
Good idea. We could have gotten Petrino with that kind of money. Then you let UT have him. A new 20 million dollar mistake is easier to fix than a $36M+ mistake.
Who would Mullen start if he had those 2 QB's?The only difference that matters is the CJM believed that Grier and Harris should be in a QB battle. If you don't believe that this staff, with any of the shortcomings it may have, is light years better than a guy who can't recognize that difference - then I don't know what to tell you. One of these things was clearly not like the other.
I don't give a sh#t about WT's record, but all that stat tells me is Mullen lost 13 times to unranked opponents and has one of the all time worst records vs ranked opponents.
Yeah. WKU was at no disadvantage talent wise. What a load of **** and an absolutely horrendous thing to say. They are equally on par with their schedule. Takes coaching to get those types of teams to be successful. He beat 2 teams who finished with a winning record the two years he won 7 games there. He’s been outclassed and out coached by every team on par or better than his.Usf was a very solid team as recent as 2007, and pulled an upset over Notre Dame in 2011, just 2 seasons before WT took over. Skip's 3-9 campaign in 2012 was the worst in school history, and coupled with a 5-7 2011 season, earned him a pink slip. Schools that are "historically terrible" don't fire coaches who go 16-21 in their first 3 seasons, especially with wins over ND, miami, Clemson and others.
As was pointed out, based on the talent surrounding them, they have an advantage over just about everyone they face in the AAC.
As for WK, I stated last night that a high energy guy can come in and change a culture in a brief period of time, especially at that level of competition. Ask Lane Kiffin if it's easier to get FAU from 3 wins to 9 wins, or to get USC from 9-12. I'm not discounting entirely what he did there. But similar to Zook at Illinois, a quick infusion of talent and energy will only take you so far.
But again, you're arguing with the wrong people. I haven't heard or read a single CFB mouthpiece that hasn't said virtually word for word exactly what you've read here regarding his performance Monday.

I'm thrilled with the WT hire. That can only help Mullen and our Gators, and the fact that they boxed themselves in financially if they part with him makes it so much better. I just hope he keeps himself clean so they can't fire him for cause.Honestly, I kind of wish these threads would've died off by now. I've contributed to it, so I'm just as much to blame. But all the points we could make, regardless of our position on the Mullen hire, have been made. We're already in week 2, and still discussing comparisons and ideal scenarios. May as well enjoy finding out what we have, especially considering the way things have begun for WT and the noles, which is really what this thread was supposed to be about anyway.
Go copulate yourself. And stop interrupting. I'm getting ready to post all NFL offensive and defensive coordinators, plus most retired coaches, plus all 1AA coaches. So you’re just copy and pasting lists now? We want a specific answer with specific reasons. What coach, within reason, should we have hired instead of Mullen?
That one might be a stretch. I'd say even.Major Applewhite.

Not sure if that is misleading, but it's plenty depressing. But Franks looks different this year, maybe Mullen is really different too? Swonkey is right that generally you are what your record says you are, and tigers don't change their stripes, etc. But there is always the exception to prove the rule. I'm hoping Mullen is the exception but not banking on it.
Hold up, let's not move the goal posts. Either you need to make the argument that Butters > Mullen or you missed entirely what I'm saying.
I think you can see for yourself the answer this year. EJ is clearly a better fit, but he's not the best chance of winning - at least not yet. He'd start WG who was a willing runner and a more capable passer.
IThis is a common tactic by you, when you don't have verifiable proof. Going with the I know I'm right? So if Harris was so equal, you forget the other three quarters of the game or the following game.
