Had a great week with IMSA testing. SCCA banquet was last night, guest speaker was IMSA president John Doonan. He is from grass roots racing, and 'one of us.' It was a terrific time, fittingly in the Bill France ballroom in The Shores Resort.

Hundreds and hundreds of karts racing three courses, 3.56 mile road course, dirt oval, and sprint karts. There are a handful of unlimited karts that go 160mph on the road course. Might see some famous last names on the sprint track, and lots of action sliding and nerfing by all ages on the dirt oval.

SCCA will be live streaming from Homestead this weekend and Sebring on Jan 13-14. Taking my kayak for a few days in the Keys between races. Then back to Daytona for IMSA practice and the Rolex24. I hope it warms up by then.

Over 200 entries for Homestead, over 300 for Sebring.

Homestead and Sebring were great except the Toyota MR2 that burned to the ground at my turn. Man I'm tired of car fires. He went off track, bounced in the grass/dirt, tore a line loose under the car and caught fire on the half mile back straight.

Daytona starts tomorrow with IMSA. Rolex24 is my Super Bowl

This is the first official image of the Chip Hart Racing Porsche which will compete in the event. Wright Motorsports will field the No. 120 Porsche in the prestigious, twice-around-the-clock race.
The No. 120 Chip Hart Racing Porsche will be included in Apple Original Films’ highly anticipated Formula One Racing feature that hails from director Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”), Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Plan B Entertainment, seven-time Formula One champion Sir Lewis Hamilton’s Dawn Apollo Films banner. Created in collaboration with F1, the motion picture stars Brad Pitt as a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his teammate on APXGP, a fictional 11th team on the grid.

This wrap is cool. The theme is of the guitar known as 'The Fool'. Once owned by Clapton, then Todd Rundgren, famous for just looking cool. The guitar was recently auctioned and bought by Indy Colts owner Jim Irsay, an avid music instrument collector, for $1.27 Million.
The car is racing Friday in the 4 hour race.

"Safety Car" BMW driver failed to navigate the Le Mans Chicane Saturday morning while giving VIP rides. Oooops! I heard one or two people went to the hospital from it. :(

I posted this before, it was in the Classic 24 Hours, owned by Adrian Newey of Red Bull F1 and co-driven by Ford CEO Jim Farley. If you squint your eyes you can see the M on the hood of this 1965 Ford GT40

I missed the 4.0 earthquake last night because the ground where I was at was already shaking.

1904 Napier Samson L48
In 1905, Napier shipped their revolutionary six-cylinder race engine to the annual auto races at Ormond and Daytona Beaches.
The events attracted the era's finest and bravest drivers, and these pioneers pushed the boundaries of speed and engineering.
Arthur Macdonald, a British mechanic, made history on January 25, 1905, by using the L48 to set a world record of 104.651 mph.
The stunning record was achieved during the annual Speed Week at Daytona Beach.
It was both first time a car was recorded at over 100 mph in the United States and it was the first British car to exceed 100 mph.

If you have about a million bucks you can bid on this car in a couple weeks.
Bonham's Amelia Island

The photos in the link are amazing. Click the 'details' box to read the car history.

The car has returned to America and participated in the Historic Beach Racing Parade this weekend at Racing's North Turn.

Notice the gold gator head has been added on. Appears to be from the squeeze bulb in the steering wheel. napierbonhamsside.jpg
