The weird part is that football players only made up approximately 25% of these courses. Did the rest of their students really need the GPA boost?

And this is a school that has a relatively high academic reputation, unlike say, FSU.

To have this go on for as long as it did just goes to show how athletics control the "game" at some campuses - and their football team was never even relevant!

Just wonder how much this helped Roy Williams Bball team. Did they win a NC during this and could it be vacated based on players courses then?

Many courses were made up courses called paper courses...essentally independent studies with no professor. All they had to do was submit a paper at the end of the semester. I bet these papers were plagarized as well.

U. of North Carolina is not the only school where this type of thing goes on. Some lesser academic schools have bogus easy courses for the student body at large. Universites are hypocritical in this. The academic people always act morally superior, but reality shows a different story. The desire to win football games, and the money involved, is driving the cheating. Big disconnect. Charade.
