I don't see any problem with Shannon staying on as a position coach. I like the guy - he's a pro. I can't say I'd want him at DC, however.

Personally I think the point is moot because I think he's probably going to get a better offer elsewhere to be a DC.

Agreed. Maybe Assistant HC and recruiting coordinator/LB coach. I don't buy the slant that RS is the reason the D recruiting went into the toilet. He didn't have final say...Butters did.

What is there to gain by playing in the weed Wacker bowl, in a 5,000 seat stadium. Let's be honest, if we played in a bowl game, we would get embarrassed, spend that time getting staff ready and recruit your a$$ off. Hell we can't get the players to show up for an sec game, what makes you think they would show up for a no name bowl game

I don’t disagree, but they’ve looked like muck 90% of the time this season. I’d prefer to have a DC who can recruit and coach them up.

I was totally wrong with the firing of Mac and I celebrated being wrong and still am. That being said, I hope I am wrong again because I have never believed Kelly would come to Florida. Heck I think half of the population didnt think so. I really want to be wrong again.

Concerning Shannon, I don't think he's a bad DC. He had some great defenses at UM, but he had great players who were coached well. We are well short of players and at least Skipper appears to be deficient in his duties (as Law has said). Rumph certainly doesn't seem to be getting the most out of the DL, but maybe I'm giving our guys too much credit upfront too. I way underestimated the talent drop off from last year to this year. That being said, I'm not advocating for Shannon, but I would not be upset if we kept him. Just can't keep everyone else too. And if Shannon stays as DC, I would expect Rumph to stay as well, they appear pretty tight.

As for Shannon the recruiter, his biggest asset appears to be keeping us from recruiting the trouble makers from SFL. I know that sounds funny given AC's transgressions and the CC deal, but AC was in the 1st class and they likely didn't have time to vet, and some kids are just sheltered and don't come out of their dipshyt shell until they move away. If not for AC, it's been said the others likely don't go along with the scam. Smith was the "brains" behind the deal and he is from GA.

Bill Davis was the DC with the Eagles. He is a position coach now. Chip Kelly might assemble coaches like they have at OSU and Bama. Does not matter if you are a DC or a position coach.
