Nah, it's Gus's offense.
This is such an odd move. He probably makes close to what the UConn head coach makes as the OC at Auburn. He's been with his mentor his entire coaching career. Maybe UConn gave Edsel a blank check?
Edit: looks like he got a 3-star $350k deal. He had to be making at least that much at Auburn. Maybe he and Gus had a falling out?
On another note, Fleck looks to be a star in the making... If he does well I give him two years (three years tops) before he's offered a top notch program.
Hey look....here's a novel idea: you finish w/ an offense ranked in the 100's and you decide to revamp your offensive coaching staff!!! (Pumpers take notice!):
Iowa is overhauling the offensive staff.
Not long ago, Kirk Ferentz said he expected offensive coordinator Greg Davis to return. Then Davis retired, offensive line coach Brian Ferentz was promoted to OC, and Kirk Ferentz wouldn’t commit when asked if more changes were coming.
Now wide receivers coach Bobby Kennedy and running backs coach / special teams coordinator Chris White won’t return, meaning there are three jobs open on the offensive staff: quarterbacks, running backs and receivers.
The Iowa offense has struggled for a long time. It’s hard to know if there will be any stylistic changes when Brian Ferentz is the OC, but it’s clear Kirk Ferentz wants change. The Hawkeyes haven’t had a top-50 scoring offense since 2010, when they were No. 50.
Wait, so their OC retires (read nicely pushed out the door) and the HC promotes within (his son, mind you) and then they let go a couple of Assts.? This is considered a revamping?
Yes, kinda. I agree we've been inexcusable but... if he showed Nusschump the door and promoted Butters Jr., would we really be all that happy? Would we think much has changed? IDK. Just a hypothetical. It's a hell of a lot more than we've done. From what I've seen, the entire 116th ranked staff is returning. Would you agree? It's inexcusable.

You're right, there is no Butter's Jr. which is why I said it's a hypothetical. You're also right that there needs to be a change in the staff. Matter of fact, I'm pretty much agreeing with everything you've said EXCEPT the part about it being some big change promoting his son. Ferentz is a hell of a coach so why did his offense stink? He's in charge just like Butter's in charge. I would think promoting your own son would just be more of the same, not something different.Sure. But there's no "butter's junior" on our staff. Ferentz Sr. is a hell of a football coach. I'm sure his son has son ideas of his own and now that he's the new OC will implement those changes. We just finished in the 100's for the 2nd year in a row (I know, it's the QB...it's the OL....it's everyone's fault but the coach). There needs to be changes on this staff, due to the results on the field....and lack of results in recruiting.
His first job for someone other then his Dad or a Stoops.Western Kentucky:
Steve Spurrier Jr. returns to full-time coaching after one year as an offensive / recruiting specialist at Oklahoma. He previously coached wide receivers under his own dad at South Carolina from 2005-15. Sanford and Spurrier make two sons of veteran college head coaches.

Honestly, I'd be fine with Nusschump getting fired and Butters taking the playcalling. I'd be pretty much happy with anyone replacing him. I don't know who the 128th OC was but pretty much anyone is an improvement. I can't come up with a known worse OC off the top of my head. He has proven to be terrible at multiple jobs with multiple coaches with many different sets of kids and going against many different levels of defensive talent. I don't know how more proven terrible you could be and still maintain employment. Even hiring someone with no experience, like Dameyune Craig or anyone else, at least it's not a known bad hire.Yes, kinda. I agree we've been inexcusable but... if he showed Nusschump the door and promoted Butters Jr., would we really be all that happy? Would we think much has changed? IDK. Just a hypothetical.
