Does anyone know anything about this? My son just sent this post to me and I do not know whether to take it seriously or not

    See @militaryarms for more info.

Reposted from @militaryarms URGENT: PLEASE SHARE THIS IMPORTANT MESSAGE!
I was sent this message to share (see link). The law firm of Wiley Rein is one of the largest law firms in the firearms industry and represents a number of major manufacturers in their dealings with the BATF and regulations. This is NOT a joke nor is it speculation. This is a stark warning of things to come and I hope it prompts you to take political action.
This letter is about several things but primarily it is something you should take very seriously because of recent actions by the BATF that will affect any owner of AR15 pistols, AK pistols, HK pistols, etc. Yes, this means your Saint AR pistol or your Draco. That's exactly what the ATF is targeting.
There are several things of importance in this email.
First: It goes against the Trump administrations Executive Order mandating such regulatory practices cease. The BATF has lead the charge is thumbing their nose at the President and his DOJ under the leadership of Attorney General Barr.
Second: Any firearm that has a barrel length that is too long, or the firearm is too heavy will be considered not importable by the BATF. No more pistol versions of rifles will be importable.
Third and the MOST IMPORTANT: Through unwritten interpretation of regulations and through private correspondence with unspecified companies, the ATF has capriciously and arbitrarily decided that ANY AR15 pistol, AK pistol, HK pistol, etc. is an ANY OTHER WEAPON (AOW) and thus is subject to the NFA and taxation. Any company who produces such firearms for sale in the United States and any consumer/owner of such firearms are either manufacturing or in possession of illegal AOW's. This is being retroactively enforced. It does not matter if you bought a previously approved firearm. The only way you can be for certain you are not in possession of an illegal NFA item is to personally submit your AR15 pistol, AK pistol, etc. to the ATF for a determination.

Not what we are doing. Well, grip strength isnt enough. (She is some sort of musician.)

Think Bill Rogers type drills, 6 rounds in 1.5 seconds ish 7-15 yards. You really have to be locked in and muzzle must not move much at all.

Would this have to be legislated by congress or a policy decision made by ATF bureaucrats?

It would have to be a policy promoted by Trump's DOJ.

And it would apply only to imports.

          Again, it's total bullshat.

What would you do? (remember, I'm small town USA with good ol' boy sheriffs and not downtown Chicago)

I went on a walk today on an unoccupied farm behind our house. Someone does do target practice back there but I don’t know the owners. It’s a few hundred acres. I’m walking down the road with my daughter and neighbor and come across this H&K .45 After much debate and calling Seedy, I brought it home and called the sheriff. I think it fell off the back of a truck but wouldn’t have touched it if it was suspicious. Didn’t want it to continue to rust and didn’t want it getting into some kids hands. They are running the serial number through ATF and will call me back.

Good decision. For all you know it was used in a crime and they’re not the ones you want in your collection.

Sheriff called back and asked to come pick it up. They will do their research on it and then turn it over to the state police. There's no circumstance that they would give it back to us as a "finders keepers" situation. Hope they can find the owner.

You may be able to sue and keep it as found property. It isnt property of the Sheriff.

Assuming it doesn't come back as used in a crime once they do ballistics.

Detective tried to run the SN with the ATF a couple of times but the computers must have been down. He talked to his boss and he said they needed to retrieve it. Just as well since it wasn't found on our property anyway. Technically I was trespassing. Hope they can find the rightful owner. If I knew who it was, I would have returned it.

His boss isnt an attorney and his boss has bosses who have attorneys. You were legally where you were, correct? On a public road (or road with public easement)? It's yours, likely.

nope, I was trespassing which is why I was wondering if I should have removed it. It’s several hundred acres for sale with no home on it. I’m not sure that the owner would have found it and it’s about to rain. A railroad track runs nearby and there have been transient people back there at times. Right or wrong, it’s done and out of my hands.

Sounds like the opening scene in a movie.

the weapon was used at a crime scene and now you’re being framed for the murder of a high ranking official. Who do you see playing you?

Sheriff called to say they found the owner. They asked him if he was missing an HK .45 and he had no idea. Went to check and it was gone. Found the sn and it matched the gun. It was returned to him.

Here is more discussion of the ATF vs AR rifle issue. Looks like gun makers lawyers are involved and taking action against ATF attempted gun grabbing

The gun maker lawyers SUPPORT this, usually quietly. They WANT bans on imported "assault rifles" so they can make them here.
