Dinner time

March 1st @Seedy got a pizza kit sent to him by his employer for a Friday night “fun” activity. That was the day of the storm and we didn’t have electricity for 6 days so we finally got to make the pizza tonight. It was really good but we had to use our own dough as theirs didn’t quite make it.

Lobster ravioli from Costco but I made the sauce and the Jalapeño poppers. Comfort food. Plate full of pasta, heavy cream and cheese. I promptly fell asleep on the couch after.

Last night I did a Cuban style flank steak with black beans and yellow rice. And, yes, I probably overloaded my plate with beans and rice.

Tonight’s goal is turn this ……..

…..into a killer vodka sauce. The dish is a favorite of mine when done right, but is a mess to make and takes a bit of time to make. Here’s how it looked going into the oven…..

…..and here’s how it looked 90 minutes later.

So far, so good. Stay tuned……

Wife made torchietti pasta tonight with a very light cheese and lemon sauce and fresh peas. Had some toasted turkey as well, an arugula salad and a burrata with red peppers that didn’t make the picture.

@Seedy has exactly two meals that he makes when asked to cook. Three if you count leftovers. Tonight while I was busy he added tortavioli (tortellini and ravioli) with meat sauce to his repertoire. He’s a keeper!

Posting for posterity.

Smoked porked with pappardelle.

Recipe called for “smoked sea salt.” I had no idea what that was, so this recipe sat on the shelf for quite a while until I ran across it in a variety store. It has a unique taste and gave the meat a smoked taste while braising in the oven in a veggie, wine, & stock sauce. One of the better pasta dishes I’ve made.

Would the SEC scoop them up?

In college 1999 I think, i was dating a girl who volunteered at the abuse visitation center off 13th year 39th where the publix is. So I wanted to show her I was invested so I started to volunteer a bit with her. Watched a dad who had been convicted of raping his daughter get his visitation in (she was now 15/16)... watched him look at her like a piece of meat, I walked out to my car to get a baseball bat... cop on site, saw the look I had followed me out, told me that he wasn't worth it, and stayed next to me to make sure I didn't do something stupid to waste my life on that prick.... he got caught a month later abusing another child.

I had a child once at Hampton. Blond hair boy. I was told he was the 2nd worst abused child in the Florida system, He was there one year. He was so wild It was like a wire was attached to him all the time jolting him with electricity. I believe one day (Friday) I had music on and he danced non stop for 15 minutes in the dirt near that boom box, I wish I could remember his name. Most abused children are quiet and sullen or scared. I had one boy who was always sad. IT was his dad. His mom was the most masculine woman I ever met. Some kids come to school with baggage beyond our imagination (in a bad way) I called if I suspected. I will tell you about Della one day

My former business partner had previously been a detective with the New South Wales Police in Australia. He did two years in the Child Sex Crimes division. He said every six months he'd get on a plane to Hawaii, lay on the beach for three weeks and smoke enough pot to be perpetually stoned. No one can stay on those cases. Each one is just adding to the PTSD.
The first case worker I had on my adoption case, she always had long hair down to her ass, one day she showed up with a shaved head, told us she is leaving the field, she couldn't handle it anymore.... she was young and naive when she started adn thought all parents wanted to be good, then saw the truth.

he mentioned the detectives working these cases get burned out and quit. So much pornography with infants and young children. Can’t even imagine what they’ve seen. Worst job ever.

Volunteering in the abuse and foster care system, I have seen many people who work in those fields burn out... I stopped volunteering after the adoption couldn't see it anymore
