Yeah I think the reality we’re struggling with is that our WR room—or any other position—isn’t going to just keep being stacked. The portal adds are great, but will simply lead to 2-3 “man I hate to see him go” announcements in the coming weeks or months. It’s not all positive now, and it won’t be all negative then. Still think there’s a lot of 6/half dozen situations where we end up in almost the same spot but just with a different name on the jersey. I don’t think either party(school or player) are really gaining that much.

The one thing I think we can’t keep doing is grabbing a guy from the portal, particularly at WR, and having them take the majority of the reps from the HS recruits. I got it with Pearsall, and even with Badger to an extent, but we have WRs that we recruited and are eligible for the draft this year. We have to be able to show we’re developing them, not just grabbing a hot name from the portal and telling the recruits to “wait”. To me, the whole reason we keep needing a proven WR in the portal each year is we’ve not let the younger guys get enough reps. I’d like to see that end and the portal become more supplemental outside of a few big names or unique cases.

Sending a kid to juco will always be a giant risk. There is no "future commitment" with kids in school much less someone else's school.

I hope Napier is smart enough to adjust his run/pass mix to take advantage of DJ's talents and the receivers. Clearly there is reason to be concerned about that.

And that's why I keep advocating for a faster tempo. More plays, more players feel loved. To your point, you have to feed them if you want them to grow. And stay,
