I guess, but if you only have 4 slots and no automatics, then it is really not that tough a call to take someone else over PSU. That Ohio State had a win over the Big 12 Champs also helps make this an easy call.

Should have been, but that's not the criteria. They could simplify a lot of the controversy if only conference winners were eligible.

Picking the 4 best teams available means they can pick 4 conference champs if they're the best. But it also gives them leeway to pick someone else if they're not, like in the case of Penn St.

This is what I hate about the playoff system. If it's 4 teams then 5 and 6 bitch, if it's 8 teams then 9 & 10 bitch. So on and so on. If you're not 1 or 2 shut the **** up, you don't deserve a chance anyway.
