We are hoping to get back into the Big Four in Florida.
I'll settle for the Big Six at this point!! :D
We are hoping to get back into the Big Four in Florida.
Played MSU down there in 89, it was an MSU "home game".
UCF refused to play us?We are hoping to get back into the Big Four in Florida.
We gain absolutely nothing from this. We should be scheduling big neutral site pay days. Why is the eff would we wanna build usf up?
Have since Syracuse ran us out of the gym in 1992.
It's less about being run out of the gym, and more about "what are we gaining?giving up". In that case, we had just played a ranked Alabama team, had a ranked Msu team the following week, ut shortly after. All in all, 5 ranked opponents out of 11 games, (not to mention road games at Aub and Lsu who happened to be unranked), ending with the noles, is plenty. That game made no sense and derailed a great season.
As was pointed out, Alabama has no true OOC rival. So their playing Penn State or Mich or Usc to start--then paying a few cupcakes to round out their schedule--should be seen no differently than our SEC slate and fsu, with a few cupcakes. Why it's viewed differently is beyond me.
I don't have a problem playing a team like Usf, but also don't see a lot that we gain either.
So what you are saying is the risk rewards doesn't equate, which we both agree on . But doesn't change my statement in the slightest.... So how does this statement relate to mine? We got ran out of the gym in Syracuse . The administration saw the risk was far larger than the reward.
Yeah, I read that too quickly and thought you were implying something else. So uhh...
It's ok... I know your just an Eagles fan....
USF has everything to gain and nothing to lose by playing UF. We gain nothing by playing them. We already have one in-state rival. -- FSU. We could resume an old rivalry with Miami and that could create a lot of interest. But playing these Florida directional schools -- USF or UCF or FAU -- does nothing for us. But if they beat us then they gain and we lose. If we beat them then we gain nothing.

BS
I heard on this very website that Mississippi State was like Kentucky prior to Mullinz.
Yeah, Ive heard Kintucky used to be good when they had Bear Bryant in the 60s and as late as the seventies. Im too young to remember any of that. I mostly remember the last 40 years when they consider themselves lucky to avoid being last and for the occasional bowl eligibility.I know. You've been right all along..
I'm beginning a count of the number of Sherrill references. You're up to at least three in the past 10 days. You really love that old cheater, don't you?Yeah, Ive heard Kintucky used to be good when they had Bear Bryant in the 60s and as late as the seventies. Im too young to remember any of that. I do remember the coach at Cowbell in the 90s who won the west and competed for it most years, but maybe you are too young for that.

Coached Pitt the year Dorsett corrected the nation on the pronunciation of his last name and won the Heisman. Then he just sort of faded ... until MSU and Law rediscovered his magic. What’s not to like? The guy was 43-59-1 during his stellar time at Miss State, which, btw, coincided with Alabama and Auburn each having stints on probation and the wildly successful Dinardo era at Lsu.
You think beats like that grow on trees?

No I think he managed to get them on probation once while he was there, too, like early 90s.Granted, I’m not as familiar with his time at MSU, or the probation that followed, but I believe the “discovery” took place after his tenure.
