Jerry Clower talks about the SEC

I have a Clower story but he tells em better than most people.

He was pretty funny. I remember my parents playing some of his tapes in the 70s.

He looks light on his feet for a Fat Old White Guy.

He also tells a great story about the time they played Clemson. Talks about missing a tackle and says "there's nothing worse than laying on your belly on the ground and the guy you were supposed to have tackled is running away from you and his number is getting smaller and smaller as he goes.".

Yes, Clower was a fixture on the stereo in my house growing up.

I watched Jerry Clower speak to the team after practice one day in the stadium (mid-80’s before it became The Swamp.) He was doing Sonny’s commercials back then & Sonny Tillman had brought him over.

I’m not sure his HeeHaw humor was quite connecting but it was fun watching that all go down.

UF had its own football humorist who was Red Mitchum. He was from Talledega, Alabama and played tackle for Bob Woodruff's Gators in the early 1950s. He was a Gator legend. The link is to his obituary in the Gainesville Sun.
