I find the article discouraging. Most universities have a catch-all "major" for, well, for athletes. The idea seems to be to all students who have trouble going deeply into a subject to accumulate sufficient credit hours in a variety of subjects. (Article in today's WSJ suggests Brown University allows students to design their own programs-- just study what you want. Count on the Ivy League to solve a problem. ) I also understand that a real major is virtually impossible for a serious football player (Braun has a major in Mechanical engineering-- how long can he keep on?). Still, it looks like our beloved institution has devised a handful of such "majors".
Yeah, football and a real major are a really difficult combination. I attended a non_major football school (no scholarships ) with a fellow student who maintained an incredible 3.7 GPA in electrical engineering. Invariably got a 3.9 spring semester and dipped to 3.5 in the fall with the games to worry about. There used to be a bunch of kids at GT that had engineering majors
walkons, no doubt.Reading the list, I think I saw 3 mechanical engineering majors, 1 bio-med engineering major and 1 computer science major. Go nerds.
Ole Corch thinks we might win a spelling bee national championship.Yeah, but do any of those eggheads have FIVE Stars after their names..........? Stay with the narrative..........
walkons, no doubt.

UF football shatters SEC record for academic honor roll

I wonder if that sports management major has any classes on when and when not to throw a shoe during a football game.

Absolutely ZERO reasons why anyone needs to go to college/university to enter a carrier. Just join the U.S. Navy.I think it's awesome I am mentioned in the title of the Thread. People we have our priorities messed up. We no longer look at objectives. Why do people go to college/university?... Either to learn and enter into a carrier or just to gain meaningful knowledge. In todays system they are only concerned with grades and degrees and it matters not if it is useful.
Football players used college to either pay for an education or go on to the NFL. At UF Football, GPA is more important than Championships.
For the general population, SAT Scores and GPA is more important than common sense, meaningful coarse study, or even educating the average citizen in order to help the STATE...which WAS the FUNCTION of a "Land Grant College/University".
Again...What are your objectives?
