Inspired by an Earl Okine sighting tonight on MNF.

For those of you who don't remember, Earl Okine was a physical specimen. 6'6", chiseled 290, and that's not exaggerated.

You noticed when he was on the field. He was so physically imposing, he just jumped out at you.

And bless his heart, he stunk on ice. He couldn't play dead in a cowboy movie. Calling him a "stiff" is being generous to him and insulting to stiffs. About the only thing he was good for was walking off the bus first or maybe sending him out for the coin flip for the intimidation factor.

Last I heard, Earl was out of the NFL and playing for the Arena League's Orlando Predators. Lo and behold I tune in to MNF tonight and apparently he's stealing a paycheck from the Colts.

Good for him. He is a good Gator. I hope the light eventually comes on for him and he finds a way to harness the incredible physical gifts he was blessed with. You go Earl!

In the meantime, who is the most physically imposing beast of an athlete you remember who played like a pussy cat?

Alex.

I think this kind of qualifies - he played well in college but wow - don't know what the hell happened in the NFL:

I recall this guy pulling himself out of a game against our Mighty Gators over a hangnail or something.

I had a journalism professor who invited me over to his place to help with a magazine project. He had a roommate who played DT on the football team who turned out to be his lover. I didn't stay very long.

Let me set the record straight. I NEVER got to know. Though the professor's out-of-class antics became the stuff of legend around the JM Dept.

John Demps? What a beast. Middle LB of the future? Then I saw him in a spring game and realized why he was 4th string.

Deonte Thompson. Sending that man over the middle guaranteed him short arming the pass.

Jordan Reed - The guy could catch the football. But when it came to blocking? The man's whiffs were the stuff of legend. He wanted no part of blocking.

Hmmmm.... I don't know. He led the team in sacks, played for 4 years. I always felt he was just the classic tweener, more than a Tarzan/Jane.

Dock Luckie, bless his heart.

and the the fact that he played his entire UF career and several years in the NFL missing an ACL he'd ruptured at age 12 or so and hid the injury from his mom. It's discovery ended his NFL career. His incredible, uncanny strength compensated for it for years.

He is no bust.

Did you really just call the greatest athlete of our time a "Jane"?
