Luke Del Rio wasn't good enough for Oregon State, but can he save Gators' offense?

I don't know that LDR has improved, none of us do. I am fairly confident that Appleby doesn't have it.
Appleby is a big, strong armed QB who has played 1A. All he needs is some improved decision making. If anyone can do it, Mac probably would be the one.

Mac doesn't make or need superstar QBs. He never has. All he needs is a guy who takes what the defense gives and doesn't make turnovers. The defense gives you something on every play.

I find it odd that some of the people who are critical of LDR for not starting at Oregone State in their damn option offense or of Appleyby's less than stellar career at Purdue, and claim that their past performance means they won't be competent, but the same people support the fourth string QB who didn't even play in High School.

Mac is a proven QB whisperer....can't we all just let it unfold?

Appleby has proven to be terrible. LDR and Trask have not had the opportunity to do so due to extenuating circumstances. ALL practice reports point to LDR being superior and that Trask has been very impressive as well.

I guess we will all believe what we want. That said, I'm willing to sig bet with anybody that Appleby isn't the guy.

I read the article and the title was click bait. If you actually read the article it isn't nearly as critical as the title implies.

Honestly, my first reaction when I heard about LDR was similar to that thread title, but the more information I got about him the better I felt. He doesn't have to be a superstar, just make good decisions and have the ability to execute some plays.

Who the eff has said Appleby is the guy? Dude, you are tilting at windmills. I think you may have been squealing like a pig for too long or something.

There are people who have said LDR was the guy even last year when Viagraboy and Freeon were still here.

As for practice reports from morons like Bowl and the Two Drunks, they are the same people talking about Heisman Driskel and talking up the last two third string QBs.

I watched a little bit of Appleby's play at his former team. Tough kid who isnt nervous that is for sure. Ran over some LBs also. His only problem appeared to be trying to force the ball too much. If Mac can correct that he might be decent.

Reasonably, I don't see how one can discount Appleby or LDR as the possible starter.

LDR practiced all last year in Mac's and Nuss' system and had an impressive spring game. He unquestionably had a head start on Appleby. However, we really don't know for sure how he'll perform under real game conditions.

Appleby is a superior athlete who has performed in big stadium game conditions. He had more interceptions than TD passes at Purdue but some of that may be due to playing on a bad team. If you're forced to pass rather than choose to, bad things can happen. He's almost had a full practice season to learn the offensive system so he may have closed the gap on LDR to some degree.

If I we're a betting man, I'd wager Mac will give both QBs significant playing time against UMass regardless who starts. I don't think Mac is worried about another LDR transfer or this being AA's last year. With Mac/Nuss coaching, let the best man win.

Trask is fun to dream about but his chances of supplanting LDR/AA as the starter this season are just that...a dream.

I like Florida's QB prospects even if the talking heads of the sports reporting world don't. We shall soon know more and it can't happen too soon for this hound.

So....do we have a bet?

All I'm saying is that I'm willing to sig bet that LDR and Trask > Appleby.

One thing is for sure....we are so far better off than what we ended up with last season. I did like what we saw from LDR in the spring. I'm also glad we have AA who has some time under his belt. We'll be fine with either. If it is AA, if Mac does clean up his INT issues, it's all the better. As for Trask, if we see him in a starting role, things are not good with injuries. No matter I think it will be LDR then AA. If that's the case AA is the backup purely from an experience factor over Trask. But I think he's coachable and had a good spring but not ready for the big lights yet. And Franks is definitely not ready. And still with that said I'd take any of those 4 over Freon, any day.

Half of the guys on this board were saying that Harris was better than Grier during last year's summer camp. Which was insane.

I think Franks is the closest to being a potential star at QB. But he is still at least 1-2 years away.

I think that one of these guys can get us to look decent on offense. But we will have to wait for the battle between Franks and Allen to put us back on top of the CFB world.

And if we want a solid 5 to 6 years of staying on top, we will have to bring in 2018 QB Trevor Lawrence.

I believe it was more than half. That's really all you need to know about this crowd as well
