A little probably considering the number of passes thrown and who we were playing.

Just the facts, man. Now can he improve on that?
Proud of Brandon Powell's effectiveness and peak energy.
Powell & Callaway are in-the-groove, so let's add TEs & some newbie WRs and
most of all some slashing, bashing RBs. Got to thump UK.

And he did it in a hurricane and in his first college game.

Frankly, LDR was much better than Viagra Boy was in his first four games. No wonder he quit.

The more passes there are, the greater chance for lower pass percentages and higher percentage of mistakes right? So I'd say for shaking off 3 years of rust he did a pretty good job overall

All circumstances considered he did a good job. is he a gun slinger? probably not...but we just need him to continue to grow and lead the offense week in and week out. Not a bad start for a kid that hasn't played in an actual game in forever.

Honestly if we cut the drops in half, he's over 300 yards and probably 3 TDs in a very Wuerfful-esque kind of way. I'm mildly optimistic about him going forward.

29/44 for 256 2 td/0 int 1 sack 5.92 ypa (which could be due to weather, and UMASS sitting on the short stuff)... a few drops... it was a solid day, with the questionable playcalling and offensive line play.

I agree. There were plenty of erratic throws by WG, even on those final drives against the vols last year. So I didn't see anything from Del Rio that really alarmed me. Bad conditions, a generic game plan and several passes that should've been caught. He should improve, especially if the OL makes strides.

I was frustrated on Saturday night, but I was surprised at the reactions of some to LDR. Maybe expected from a general, non-UF outsider, sure. But given our recent run of Brantley, JD, Murphy, Morningwheg, and Treon, I thought we'd be a little more excited that he didn't consistently run out of bounds for a sack, throw into the forearms of defensive players, or catch one of his own passes. Work in progress, but solid start imo.

Or that he didn't take a bunch of unnecessary sacks.

If half of the six drops had been caught, LDR would have been 32/44, which is 73%. Which is definitely pretty good. Only 1 sack with over 40 attempts is pretty good too, especially given our sack numbers last year. For a first start, even against UMass, I think LDR did a decent job.

In baseball, a pitcher's ERA excludes is designed to not penalize the pitcher for errors made by other players. That gives a more nuanced view of who's performing well or not. Unfortunately in college football we don't see "catchable balls" stats on QBs and receivers very often.

Now if we can add more passes that go 15-30 yards downfield, we'll force the defense to cover more territory, and that should help to create more opportunities.
