......to be honest Goolsby was very good at catching 1 yard passes on 3rd down.....when we needed 7.....My only problem with him was when he did a Stevie Wonder impersonation on all of his blocking assignments....
Look in modern CFB you either have TE's and use them or you don't and work around it offensively by spreading your formations....I'm not seeing this as a productive change...as someone else said RB's were probably the best position on the team.
If Goolsby had ever learned to block in his 4 years he would have made a stud of an HBack working out of the backfield in specific formations. TE is a very difficult position to learn and play at the college level at least a true LOS TE. If we're going to make that part of this offense I'd rather see a guy coaching that position who either played it or coached it in the past.....but like everything else with this team we're going to have to wait and see what they come up with. Hope for the best and maybe Seider will be an upgrade for those guys.In 2016, Goolsby made some nice plays and showed real athleticism as a receiver & runner after the catch. He regressed big time in 2017 and I agree with you about his blocking. I lay that at Nord’s feet primarily. Lewis & Stephens haven’t developed at all. Crappy offenses tend to overuse the TE so this was a really craptastic position.
Good coaches can adapt to new position groups especially when they aren’t highly technical ones (QB, CB). He’s got Hevesy to guide him so I expect he’ll be fine.
No sir, wasn't looking hard at all.....actually it was just my opinion after the productivity Seider got out of the RBs last year. I personally believe the age old statement of "if it isn't broken, then don't fix it". I do agree however that Seider could be a great shot in the arm for TE production. Not sure how anyone can say this is a "bad" decision until games have been played and the results are in. I guess some people will find something to complain about if they look hard enough.
RBs have to block and catch too, so it's not like he has no idea what to do with them. It's an odd move but as has been said, Mullen wanted his guy but didn't want to lose Seider either. Also, no one made him re-up his contract...he chose to stay.
