That's a valid point (about not taking the FIU garbage Butters took).
I'd say our roster is somewhere in the middle of where Muschamp & Zook's recruiting was - and due to Muschamp's awful OL recruiting we're probably in a little better shape than his teams (offensively - and not quite as good defensively). Meyer won an NC in 2006 after a poor signing class in 2005 - and mostly winning w/ the talent Zook left behind. If we incrementally keep moving up, getting more blue-chip kids (closer to top 100 than top 350 - i.e. kids who are barely 4-stars) we have a chance - this is how Clemson did it (along w/ dynamic QB play).
I'm not writing Mullen off yet. He was dealt a bad hand and has done a great job - on the field. Once this stand-alone is finished, no more excuses. Replacing some of the staff is the first step and is an easy fix (except for hurt feelings by the coach/es let go).
