He has us ranked #34 but has us #22 in his power ranking. What kind of sense does that make??? Damn these media clowns get dumber every year.

Phil Steele has long been one of the more knowledgeable and accurate prognosticators. He was the "crazy one" in 06 when he predicted we'd compete for a MNC.

Not sure if he's losing his touch, getting lazy or if Gator fans are in for a rude awakening.

Power ranking is maybe not too far off at 22 but I would have us higher than Miami and a few others.

I'm actually shocked that anyone would put UGA, Miami and Nebraska ahead of us.....

The UGA ranking doesn't make sense at all with us both in the East and him having us higher in the power ranking. Some I guess you could say are just based on much easier schedules.

I think the first ranking is his prediction of the AP/Coaches poll, and the power ranking is what he believes.

Steele is usually one of the better college football predictors out there, but he has missed his fair share of predictions (i.e., UF last year).

He says in the write-up that he thinks the team will contend for SEC East title again. I think the low ranking is due to not really knowing if the offense will be any good. He mentions he thinks it will be better than with Treon (hard not to be), but not as good as with Grier. The offense was running well with Grier, but it wasn't amazing. With an improved OL and if Del Rio is as good as we hope then I think the offense can out perform what we did last year in the first 6 games.

If you think about it, we have upgraded every position (except maybe QB) from the first 6 games.

Here's how it goes on the Chatter. If someone has us highly ranked they are a genius. If someone has a ranked low then they are hacks and don't know anything about football.

Grier had one stupendous game (Ole Piss) that I can remember. The rest were mediocre at best. That's not to say the potential wasn't there. It was, but it had yet to be realized outside of Ole Piss and ripping the heart of out 11see a la Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I expect that Del Rio will be better than Grier was last year and we win the East again. But he's an unknown, so there's trepidation from sheep in the media.

Exactly. Anyone questioning Phil Steele is actually the "idiot". Sure, he's not always right...but he's the best out there that does this. Also, keep in mind - he does this for gambling purposes. He's not like Athlon's or Sporting News. He does it purely based off of betting. If he's wrong a time or two, so be it. But anyone calling him "crazy" or think he doesn't know what he's talking about is, pretty much, a full-retard.

I agree. He's basing his rankings entirely on his guess that Del Rio isn't as good as Grier. I think Grier is the more physically talented player, while Del Rio is the smarter player. Based on the spring game, I don't think there will be a drop-off with Del Rio at all, but I admit that's a small sample size. Still, the potential is there for Del Rio to be just as good or even better than Grier, and that gives hope that this could turn into a special year.
