Orioles legend Brooks Robinson dead at 86

The Baltimore Orioles announced that legendary third baseman Brooks Robinson has died at the age of 86.

Admittedly, I am a Michael Jack Schmidt fan.

Chipper Jones is a close #3.

That said, I can't fathom BR was 86. I'm (going to be) 56.

Schmitty was a better hitter but Brooksie was a better fielder says 16-10 Golden Gloves.

He was my Dad's hero. It's who I'm named after. I couldn't have asked for a better guy to look up to when I was young and trying to play sports. My dad is pretty torn up today about his passing. At least Brooks got to see the O's have a good season one more time.

For a guy who did not come into the league as a 3B, he turned out to be one of the greatest defensive 3B's ever. Almost single handedly was the reason the O's took down the Big Red Machine in the 1970 (I believe) WS.

As a Pirates fan growing up I had a different last name for him....

He was the Gold Standard of Third Basemen when I was coming along. Incredible glove and nothing ever got down the line on him it seemed. All the ball players of my time wanted to be the guy at third, not short.
