I'm sure this is no surprise to anyone here.. but this theory seems pulled directly from one of our threads. Best part is that he plays it up like he just thought of it off the top of his head. Fisa Memo Suspicious if you ask me.

    Andreu’s Analysis: Mac wanted out?

Former Florida coach Jim McElwain. [The Associated Press]
Intriguing and thought-provoking theories certainly never get old, and I’ve come up with one of my own.

Like many, mine is not based on cold, hard, irrefutable facts or on information gleaned from unnamed and unseen sources. Mine comes from a strong, gut feeling formed by some observations made from last football season, and some before that.

    Ready for it?

Here it is: Jim McElwain wanted to get fired. He wanted to get out of Gainesville and Gator Nation last fall as quickly and lucratively as he could — and he pulled it off.

He orchestrated it quite deftly. As the theory goes, he knew failure off the field and on last season would not be enough to lead to his firing and a big buyout ($12.9 million) from Florida. But he found the tipping point, and he delivered it at that Monday news conference before the Georgia game when he said he, his players and his family had received death threats, supposedly from disgruntled Gator fans.

The UF administration did not buy it and neither did anybody else. It was obvious McElwain was not being truthful. And, my theory goes, that’s exactly the way he wanted to be perceived on the issue.

It led to what McElwain knew it would: UF had a difficult task proving McElwain was being fired for cause, so the two sides (UF and McElwain and his agent) sat down and negotiated a mutual parting of the ways.

McElwain got just what he wanted: freedom from a job he’d grown weary of and happiness in the form of a negotiated buyout of $7.5 million.

So, basically, McElwain earned financial security and got out of a job he no longer liked by failing and lying.

McElwain received his first payment from UF ($3.75 million) on Dec. 1. His second will come on July 1 ($250,000). Then he’ll receive the remaining $3.5 million over the course of the following three years.

    That’s quite a deal.

It was obvious to me, and many others, that McElwain — he from the wide-open spaces of Montana — never seemed completely happy or content in his job and in his surroundings. He complained (and rightfully so) about the condition of facilities and struggled to get along with others in the administration.

He really seemed down at times last season, so much so that on two occasions he was asked by a member of the media if something was bugging him or if he didn’t feel well.

Who knows, maybe it was just indifference. Or maybe he just didn’t want to be here any longer.

Whatever it was, it seemed to suck much of the energy out of the football program, something that was reflected on the field and in the weight room, especially in the weight room, based on what we’re hearing now.

Mac shouldn’t be feeling down anymore. The pressure is off. He’s got plenty of money and he’ll certainly coach again. He’ll look for a better fit in his next job.

So, there it is, my thought-provoking theory. Anybody buying it?

100% ripped off from Gatorchatter. Not only did the this angle originate here, but it was discussed in various threads, with members contributing multiple incidents supporting the assertion.

Don't go too hard on Robbie, he had his head so far up Mac's ass that he probably just started getting fresh air to his brain.

Hey Robbie you reading this? Thanks for the effort. By the way, I don't read your stuff.

Especially since I can already read our stuff (before you it's a gleam in your eye) here.

These should be merged along with about three other threads where this theory was put forth.

The smile on the guy's face as he and his wife left EverBank Field after getting pounded in the azz doggie style on national TV, said it all... they figured it was "mission accomplished." We're fired for sure.

Really. My first thought is that he isn't THAT stupid and just wanted out. And then he and his wife smiling and skipping from the field in Jax. I'm never going to get over paying that clown money to leave. He should have had to sue to get a dime.

Totally agree. Couple that with McNumb's pathetic, forlorn demeanor and his obvious realization of his own inadequacy, and it's a slam dunk. Also, a couple of observations on the pair of frauds who are the stars of the OP: This additional sorry episode illustrates what complete losers and con artists both these ass hats truly are. We've long since dismissed the BS artist formally known as our HC for the surpassing doosh he so obviously is. But the shabby excuse for a "sports writer" who committed this latest display of incompetence and plagiarism at the once proud G'ville Sun deserves some "love" too. As no-talent hacks go, I'll admit that Dooley is hard to top - but I think his little "pupil" may have actually surpassed the "teacher" when it comes to craven, self-aggrandizing "concept theft". A pox on all of them.

I disagree with the point he’ll be a head coach again. At least any time soon and probably never at a p5 school. Floridas expectations arent anything more than LSU, Michigan, Bama, Auburn, Texas, USC, etc. and if hes going to act like a baby when times get tough, and destroy the program and derail a season to get out, NOBODY is going to touch him. This was the most unprofessional exit in college football history. There’s no way ADs across the country havent asked Stricklin what happened.

With that said Robbie needs to fake a death threat so he can also gtfo of Gainesville.

I agree that it appears that Robbie took this straight off of Gatorchatter but beyond that I am amazed by the timing.

Robbie positions this not only as if he thought of it on his own but also as if it JUST came to him............
Has Robbie been in a coma since October?

Absolutely! Why not make him sue for the money? Was there a chance we'd owe him the full buyout if it went to court? We had an easy out and this guy gets nearly $8 million (on top of 3 years of salary)? What a joke! This is another strike on Stricklan.

Our community sprung up when the Gatorsports message board was shut down in the summer of 2014. We pride ourselves on offering Gator-biased, yet critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds. We are working every day to make sure our community is the best Gator message board you will find.

The management works very hard to make sure the community is running the best software, best designs, and all the other bells and whistles. Care to buy us a non-alcoholic Zima? We'd really appreciate it! Just click the "Donate" tab at the top of the page.
