Will Sammon (subscription required) put out an article on the 10 players who have stood out most in spring practice.

Here's the list: Feleipe Franks, Kadarius Toney, Ventrell Miller, John Huggins, Tyrie Cleveland, Brad Stewart, Andrew Chatfield, Zach Carter. Jon Greenard, and Kyle Pitts.

1. Andrew Chatfield
The majority of Chatfield’s reps in the scrimmage were against the second- and third-team offensive lines, but he lived in the backfield, and that’s a good sign for the redshirt freshman. He had a handful of sacks and tackles for loss. Throughout practice, he has shown good discipline on quarterback keepers. Florida needs to develop its younger defensive linemen and pass rushers, and that’s why this spring is critical for Chatfield’s development.

2. Ventrell Miller
Miller has been solid this spring against stretch runs, often limiting yardage to the outside. He had a few tackles against the run in the scrimmage, too. As a blitzer, he shot right through the gap untouched twice for sacks.

Miller also recently had an interception during practice and batted two passes down in the scrimmage. He appears to be developing into a more well-rounded linebacker.

3. Kyle Pitts
Pitts didn’t have a big scrimmage — two catches for 18 yards — but he didn’t need to in order to make a list highlighting top performers to this point. It won’t matter what his position is; he has spent time meeting with the tight ends and wide receivers. He should be the mismatch problem Mullen has raved about in the past. He has run all the routes — digs, slants, deep posts — and made the catches. Linebackers can’t run with him and safeties have a hard time matching his physicality.

Here are a few more excerpts from Sammon's article,

1. Zach Carter
Carter, a redshirt sophomore, had a bevy of sacks in the scrimmage. Really. It was hard to keep track of the number. The guess here is four. Five is possible.

Carter was seen at defensive end, his primary role behind Jabari Zuniga, and three-technique on the inside. The Gators are light inside with Adam Shuler in street clothes since Wednesday and Marlon Dunlap out. So if Carter can develop versatility and add depth at two positions, that would be a boon for Florida.

Florida’s offensive line issues have been well documented, so it’s hard to tell how much he has improved versus how much he is feasting on a mismatch. Still, Carter was given an opportunity against Idaho and shined, so he does have a track record of showing up when he gets time.

2. John Huggins
Huggins is only a sophomore and is behind veterans on the depth chart, but defensive coordinator Todd Grantham likes his length. It wouldn’t be surprising if the safety saw a healthy number of meaningful snaps this season.

Huggins made a good first impression on the first day of spring ball by jumping a handful of passes. The scrimmage was no different. Toney went in motion on one play and Trask tried to squeeze him the ball on a screen. Huggins didn’t allow it. He came off the edge and swatted the pass away behind the line of scrimmage.

Trey Dean has been excellent this spring at nickel, constantly breaking up passes underneath, but he didn’t see a ton of action his way during the scrimmage. Behind him at the nickel spot is Huggins, who continues to show a firm understanding of the defense.

What? You mean Emory didn't stand out while Feleipe Franks did? Oh my ... will some here be able to handle that?

Expected of a true freshman tackle, but Sammon also mentioned Tarquin had a disastrous scrimmage.

1 every 4-5 years because they feel they got a real diamond in the rough OK...but 3 in the same freaking year. **** butters
That was just 3 offensive linemen. There was a helluva lot more in those classes.

Billy is really good at teaching receivers to block.

That's really all we need. Has he ever had a 1000 yard receiver? Most years a 400-500 yard guy is his best.

Well you have 5-6 good receivers, I don't think any of them will get 1000 yds. If you have 1 or 2 you might.

941 would, however, be just fine.
We got very very lucky with him. Very lucky. Most total lard asses don't lose 90 pounds and become a beast.

It would be nice not to take the chances but desperation makes you less risk averse.

He is working with the 3s and 4s. Watch the video. Dbs and Wrs wearing 37-49.

You got to respect the kid for hanging in there. When Jones the Younger signed I figured he would be out the door. I suppose he still might after spring but he could certainly be playing somewhere. There was even a landing spot for JD.
