Featured The Coaching Search Thread; Stricklin "handling" it

Obviously Kiff is my first choice and should be most everyone's first choice based on what we want in the next HC. But, beyond him, the field gets weak, outside the aforementioned you listed. Just wish we had stronger "back-up" candidates to choose from as a Plan B, just in case we don't land Kiffin. There's far more "better jobs open" than there are "great candidates available to choose from".
I would be willing to bet that SS had his next choice already made before the pressure was put on him. If Kiffin is hired I wonder how he handles the introduction when everyone knows he wouldnt have ever made that decision on his own.

The next layer is current P4 & NFL coordinators. Kellen Moore? Ryan Grubb? Brian Hartline? Many should be an improvement, but THE hire?

Hartline is an intriguing guy. No idea what he would be like as HC. He is a bit like Meyer and Day in that he is a position coach everyone "knows" will be HC some day.

It should also be noted that Day was a WR coach who got promoted to interim because of Meyer's OSU problems. Day was not even the OC. If we don't land a home run or at least solid double type coach (which at the moment is Kiffin or bust) then maybe riding Billy G for a year as an interim makes sense. It worked for OSU keeping Luke Fickell as interim for a full year. I feel this is better than making yet another 4 year 50 million dollar mistake with some bottom shelf stuff.

I can't imagine it's a matter of money when it's 12 million a year or 14 million a year - both make you extremely rich. Kiffin can't lose, he's getting a huge raise either way. Knowing him, I'm willing to bet he wants a change of scenery.
This is textbook from a Headhunter I know. At some point it’s just more money and is that extra money worth more than what you really want. It’s why so many talented people work for smaller companies rather than big corporate machines. Deet mentioned a few days ago that Kiffin may take less money to come to UF. If he wants to be here, he’ll be here. He’s already been offered enough money. Sexton is working for himself at this point.

Regarding Kiffin's decision, if it is about money, Ole Miss has to beat our offer by $600,000/year just to match it, because of their 4.4% state income tax.

So much depends on the QB. We should watch out for guys that rode a QB to success. Extreme examples are Chizik and Orgeron. Franklin’s success at Vandy was contingent on Jordan Rodgers. Clark Lea hit gold with Pavia.

Better to look closer at guys like Lane or Reilly who have repeatedly found and/or developed great QBs. Lane has 2 right now - one he plucked from Ferris State of all places.

I think Kiffin's decision will be about more than money. We are the only SEC school in this more talented and populated state. He can achieve more at Florida, and he knows it.

He’s come out and said it’s not about money, but about fit for him and his family. As Ox said, he’s rich regardless. That said, it is still a factor. The state income tax savings alone would be huge.

edit: what Layla said. Great minds and all.

If we hired Hartline, would he bring Jeremiah Smith. If he did, what would a Smith, Wilson, VB3 WR corp produce?

It is honestly pretty fuchsing irritating how Hartline has been dominating recruiting of elite receivers mostly out of Florida.

Great point. It’s amazing the money a few coaches have made off of a great QB.

Honestly it's amazing we have gotten any decent receivers to come to UF under Billy. The offense was complete ass , I suppose NIL is the only reason

Yet another reason why this job far exceeds the OM job. Two of our heralded WRs are here because they are UF legacy families(VB and Mizell). Another is only here because of personal family tragedy and him wanting to leave Oregon and come back closer to home. That is the advantage of having two decades of dominance and being in a state that’s loaded with talent. Even if we don’t get them right out of high school, there is a real chance they make their way back to the state they’re from. Neither of those exists in the state of Mississippi. Whatever he’s accomplished through the portal, it would be 20x that at UF.

Oxford is, by all accounts, a lovely, quiet and charming little town of 25k. It’s an hour from Memphis, which has some nice spots and events but is also overrun with homelessness and crime. Oxford is a long way from anything else. And it’s in Mississippi.

Gainesville is a bustling city of 140k+, in 2 hours you can get to Tampa, Orlando or Jacksonville. And it’s in Florida.

There is no comparison of the brands Everything about UF Is bigger and better than Ole Miss., except Lane.

I lived there for 3 years recently and the problem is the infrastructure of that town is for 45K residents. Has not changed at all or very little. Town is run like shyt and there are a lot of crappy areas. Would not call it a bustling city but to each his own, If you like the smell of pot in public areas, a lot of street beggars and homeless and downtrodden buildings, then maybe that is bustling.

Bumper to bumper traffic and long lines at long red lights. Its not fun traveling thru.

Always thought the letter streets were so bizarre. I worked at an office building at the base of the bridge. Nightly drives down BH for a few months was fun.
BH also stands for Bound to be Hijacked. Blue Heron blvd. was called carjack alley for a long time. I was in the Big Brothers program and I used to have to go pick up my "little" there. His father was in prison for strong arm robbery. My wife got pregnant with our first child, then my "little's" father got out of prison. She suggested that it might be a good idea to drop out of the program, which was probably the best advice I've ever gotten.

I imagine you only begrudgingly even go over the bridge to interact with the West Palmer’s if it’s absolutely necessary.

I can take about 8 seconds of watching hillbillies whistling through the gaps in their teeth when they talk. There's no way I have the patience required to watch that show.

Il Mulino in Orlando/Disney. Used to be much better actually. The flagship in NY is incredible.
