Seldomly do I weigh in of officiating and in no way think that is what cost UF the game. It did not. But the officiating was not great but I would like to clarify a few things. I have played and coached basketball a lot and their are misconceptions. Yes the play they missed with Hudson out of bounds was bad, but I think the official was confused by the small vertical line there. Not sure why that small hashmark is there on the floor. The charge call on Stone was incorrect and a bad call. However the play on which Gak was hurt was a good call. Gak moved underneath a guy as he was coming down for a rebound. Just like the kid who got hit in the mouth by Stone, but was called for the foul. That was the correct call, but if it was in reverse, many of you would have been clamoring that it was a flagrant foul. I don;t see how the officiating caused us to take a lot of awful shots. They did get the call correct with Hudson on a charge with the guys foot on the arc underneath the basket. I know there were a lot of questionable calls, but those call never prevented Mike from taking TO's to stymie Ole Miss runs or to try and orchestrate some movement for some better looks.
1. Certainly you are correct on the play Gak got the concussion. That was clear on replay.
2. You should quit making excuses for the official on the call on Hudson stepping out of bounds. Just like the players it is the job of the official to know and understand the court they are officiating on. He should have know that line was the and he should have NOT blown that call. I bet you would not make an excuse for a player who made such a bonehead decision because of a confusing mark on the floor. That said as I have said several times a good team plays around or through such a bone head call.
3. I did expect an F1 on Stone for the elbow, but this is really the first time I have seen the new crowded space rule called.
4. I do not believe that that UF took particularly bad shots. UF just did not make quite as many 3s, but shot ok for the road from the arc. UF did not shoot well inside the arc and lost the rebounding battle.
5. For all of you TO guys:
A. UF led by 8 and Mississippi took a TO at 11:42
B. Mississippi tied it up by 11:07. I am not sure when a TO should have been called in those 35 seconds.
C. At 10:43 the TV TO came with the score tied.
D. At the 6:17 (I think) the Stone crowding/elbow call was essentially a TO.
E. At 3:40 the under 4 TO.
F. At 1:46 the Hudson charge/block call was essentially a TO.
I am not sure if another play stoppage would have stopped any momentum Mississippi had in this game.
