Am I missing something? Has any UF reporter asked him, why is your staff so bad at recruiting, do you realize it is the lifeblood of the program and it will determine if you have any longevity in your chosen career path at a big program?

This is a hot button topic for me.
Why is it that reporters continue to treat college football players and coaches like they are amateurs when it comes to asking tough questions?
Mac makes millions/year and should be forced to answer tough questions. Unfortunately, none of the so-called journalists will ask for fear of the UF mafia banning them from future press conferences as well as access to other events.
This is a public institution, operating in an open records state, dealing with a highly compensated employee. Why is he protected?

There are people and functions in my career that I would like to be protected from answering to but I do not have that luxury.

Memory may fail me, but I think SOS only had one top 10 recruiting class-the one with Brock Berlin and his wall. The HBC really didn't like to recruit, but, he could coach up any player that came to Florida. As was once said of Mr. Bryant, "He could take his'n and beat your'n and he could take your'n and beat his'n."

We always had top recruiting classes under Spurrier. But you are right in that he did not like to recruit. The difference was that kids lined up to come here to play for him.

Yep we really had some good classes the years before our appearances in the 95 and 96 season Championship games when Zook was helping to bring a lot of top players in. I think those were the only teams Spurrier matched FSU talent wise.

98 and 01 were very, very talented. 98 was full of guys who only cared about getting to the NFL asap.

19th is unacceptable at this point in Mac's tenure. He's been HC for almost 2 years and is on his 3rd recruiting class. He and the staff need to step it up. There is no good reason to not be top 10 at this point in his UF tenure.

Skills position weapons: Callaway Cleveland Swain Hammond Lewis Scarlett Perine. Ivey Taylor as bookend tackles with Jordan and hopefully a capable center and left guard. All that's missing is a good QB. We have a raw 6'6" prototype pro-style QB on the bench learning the system who never had real coaching before getting here. Yet, before the guy even takes a snap we want to fire Mac because he's winning the East ugly after inheriting a pitiful program from the worst coach in history.
Since I'm the all-powerful Wizard of OZ, I award you a brain. It appears that you need one. You are, without a doubt, the most delusional poster, and no one is even close to being so dense. You list players, but are any of them All-SEC? Even 3rd string? Maybe one, and that's a stretch. You now talk about Franks. He's done nothing, and he looked horrible in the only two sightings since high school-the all-star game and in the Spring. There's an epidemic of freshmen playing QB, yet this guy can't see the field because of Luke Del Rio, McElwain's hand picked scrub?
There's no hope for you. Is there ANY tangible reason UF will be better next year? IF UF finishes this year like they did last year, will that fact register? McElwain, in my mind, is a con artist. He fooled Foley, not a difficult thing to do, and I wonder if you are related to Foley. You seem to see things that no one else sees.

And you fool no one. Hey, when a Nole Trole wants Mac fired maybe he is doing something right.

It's not only the scheme from an X's and O's perspective, but he also knows the exact type of player he needs to successfully run the scheme and, more importantly, it appears he has gotten those players. I have raised this a number of times and none of the Dementors on the board have challenged the promise in the skill positions and O line for next year.

The obvious X factor is the performance of Franks/Trask next year. If he missed on both, then he's finished. But until we know, considering the otherwise unquestioned potential, it's too early to cut bait now. And, FWIW, taking 3 years to rebuild after our O had been wandering the Siberian wilderness the prior 4 years is not unreasonable.
What makes you think he's gotten those players? Is it that I'm missing something that your seeing g and I'm not , or is it tat your basing this solely on a Qb we haven't seen take a snap because if it's the ladder then we have a problem because if neither can beat out LDR or Appleby for the job what makes you think they will next year? Imo if either are better then they should be playing right now gaining experience against quality teams since it's a throw away year at this point anyway.

I hope at the end of Spring practice there isnt any talk of Franks and LDR being in close competition.

How many times in the last two seasons have you said to yourself...great call? For example, the read option play last week. I was like...great call. It was a great call. Honestly, how many times have you said that to yourself?

The first half of the Tennessee game.. that was by far the best 30 minutes of football Mac has called. On the flip side... you can make the right calls and have them poorly executed...

By "gotten those players" I'm specifically referring to the young but already productive skill positions - basically the entire 2 deep of which returns next year. Other than you, nobody has really questioned the talent/promise of this group. We have no idea on Franks, but considering he was a highly rated 4* and thus more likely to succeed than a couple of transfers with little prior/current success in their resumes, it's not unreasonable to predict with some confidence better things from the QB spot than we have seen this year. I've said this a few times already and I don't expect to convince anyone, you especially, so that's the last I'll say on the subject.

I agree on Franks. He needs to be in these games getting experience if he's the likely starter next year. But, with a chance to win the East, slim as it may seem, I at least understand going with Appleby over the rollercoaster that is likely with Franks. At the end of the day, go with who you think gives you the best chance, but Mac's track record, namely choosing LDR over Appleby and being indecisive on Grier and Treon early last year, doesn't engender much confidence in his ability to correctly make that call.

Lighthouse, pretty much every analyst and most people on this board question the talent on offense. At best it is ho hum or maybe promise but not production. You brag about receivers who cant beat out Fullwood ad Worton as if they are all Americans. Our backs are just mehhhhhh. Our OL is still rancid. Half of you think a QB who hasnt started since he as twelve is the future.

Youre in a strange world my friend. However I hope your blind faith and optimism is rewarded. Im so tired of wiat til next year though we are truly in wait til the year after next mode right now if you are not in the wait til next coach camp.

Honestly, it's a message board, and a boring one at that right now with basically one voice: doom and gloom. I suffer no delusions that the outlook for Mac is likely anything but that, but it's fun to mix it up in here anyway. That said, if there's a positive to be found anywhere it's in the young skill positions and some of the young o-line (maybe more promise than production, but so too are the recruits whose decisions everyone hangs on and the blind faith you have in the new AD hiring the next Urban or SOS). You're telling me you can't find anything to look forward to or find positives in the stable of young 4* and 5* at wide-receiver (Callaway and Cleveland have already shown they can produce, the others look like a capable 3 and 4) and Scarlett and Perine in the backfield?

I'm not in wait till next year mode. This thread is about recruits, i.e. next year and beyond. I'm looking forward to watching tomorrow with a chance to win the East on the line (though who cares about that anymore, amirite?) even though I don't think we have much of a shot on the road. And win or lose tomorrow, I'll be looking forward to the chance to stomp the clowns.
