Just imagine if we had a QB who could consistently hit an open receiver in stride... A good pass here and the Gators are up 14-3 and it changes the game. I'm not saying we win, but it shows the opportunities are there.

Wasn't that the play where AC ran the wrong route?

More news . . .

5-star QB Justin Fields is now ranked the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/justin-florida-no-1-recruit

Justin Fields is now the best recruit in the country — officially.

On Monday, the 5-star quarterback moved up two spots in the 247Sports composite rankings to become the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect and dual-threat passer.

Fields received the boost because of his phenomenal performance at The Opening Finals earlier this month in Oregon. His 7-on-7 team won the tournament championship and Fields earned Elite 11 MVP honors after throwing zero interceptions and completing more than 70 percent of his pass attempts.

The top schools for Fields are Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Georgia. He visited all five programs last month and said he’s also considering Penn State and Southern California.

Auburn (July 13) and Georgia (July 16) are both scheduled to host Fields on campus. He took a two-day trip to Florida three weeks ago — his second visit in as many months — and could return to Gainesville July 21 for Friday Night Lights or a Gators home game this fall.

The 6-foot-3, 221-pound passer doesn’t have a decision timeline, but he told SEC Country he will likely take official visits before making his commitment.

Florida hasn’t landed the nation’s top-ranked recruit since 2010 (Ronald Powell).

It appears UF has officially offered Corral, or at least it has finally been made official. Corral has also confirmed that he will be at FNL on July 21 (which means he is cancelling a previously scheduled visit to Bama to come to UF instead), staying over night, then going to UGA the following week for a 2 day visit also.

If we were all in for Fields only, and now we aren't, I can only assume that there is a reason behind it and UF doesn't feel like our chances are good for Fields.
I hate that, of the two, I would rather have Fields.

I get the feeling one of two things is going to happen. Fields to FSU and Corral to UGA, or we could luck out, well sort of, and Fields goes to UGA and Corral comes to UF. I would still prefer Fields, but if Corral wants to come to UF, I'm all for it as he is still a very good QB and better than anything on our roster.
Either way, it looks more and more to me like Fields isn't coming here.

I expect Fields to F$U.
Corral to UGA.
Franks to throw for 400 yards and 6 TDs against Michigan and be arrested the following Monday for diddling a child.

I really hope that's not the case we really need one of the 2. I knew not to believe all the negative stuff that was coming out about Fields not really meshing well with Jimbo during his visit. I really think we're being played by both players but I really don't get the Corral noise to UGA hasn't he stayed he wants to play right away? Eason will still be there and the other 5* Qb would have a year on him already. But players will say anything Fields said academics were important to him at ome point yet he will probably end up at FSU. I really hate it for the program though we really need one of those players.

If you think the talent last year on offense was equal to its 116th ranking...you're hopeless.

I think everything except QB was. Now I also think there are huge play calling issues with Nuss... so don't get me wrong... the coaches are part of the problem, but a better QB would absolutely make a huge difference for our offense. I don't think Appleby was very good. He had moments where he showed he could be good, but it seemed to me that he didn't play within himself. He always tried to do more then he was capable or he would just miss open guys (like above).

If you don't think QB is our biggest issue on offense then I don't know what you are watching.

I wasn't saying we were close... I was saying that is where I see reason to be optimistic. With a better QB we are not missing as many opportunities... that makes us better offensively which should lead to better recruiting, etc...

There are two things to do... look for every reason we will suck... or look at the reasons why we might not suck... I prefer to look for reasons we won't suck.
I was referring to the tweeter, not you. But since you responded just one simple thought. We DO suck... really badly. And those highlights prove it. There is no might or might not about it. All the maybes in the world dont change any of that.

I guess my version of suck is more that 4-8 team that lost to Vandy vs. a team that won the East (even a weak East). I think there is an area between suck and great. Last year we were an average team. We had a great defense and a bad offense. This year the defense won't be as good, but the offense should be better. The hope is that the offensive gains are bigger than the defensive loss so we will be good or very good this year. It is going to take time to get this program back to great. It isn't a 2 or 3 year fix, but a 5 year fix at minimum which means we have 3 more years.

We have an eternity with this coaching staff.

While I can respect your position, I thoroughly disagree with it. And according to player talent composites (another recent thread) which traditionally correlate very close to win/loss record, espeically for florida, we are playing 6 teams higher than us this year. Even bucking the corralary trend by winning a couple of those as the underdog, thats still probably 4 losses out of 6 games. Then there is the dreaded 3rd year curse that every darn coach here has been subject to. How exactly are we going to be good to very good this year if it takes 5 years to solidify a program? It seems like you're promoting the idea that we will be much better this year, but also lining up the 5 years to build a program excuse if we aren't.

Like it or not that is most likely the truth. We are in year 3 and I can't imagine they don't get 2 more years after this... unless something crazy happens. That doesn't mean I think they will deserve it... a lot depends on what happens in the next year or two, but I don't see us making any change for at least 2 more years... probably 3 unless there is a major disaster.

5 years to build a program from when McElwain took over. This is year 3 so in my mind it should be a turning point. I generally agree with the 3 year thing, but in McElwain's case he had to rebuild an offense from scratch so the offense should (I say this with much hope) be much better this year. I obviously want to see wins vs. losses, but another year winning with a bad offense will not be OK. We need to show that we are playing a higher level of football.
