The damage that Matthew did in terms of people's psyche is evident and seriously disturbing. Even '04 was more an inconvenience than a devastation. Anyone who dealt with Andrew and/or the relief truly gets what these storms can do. Not sure anyone who didn't live through it really understands it. Really hope I'm wrong, but this looks bad.
If you are in Gainesville, you should be fine. I can confidently say that after living here most of my life. I was also in SFL in 2004, and visited SWFL after Wilma. We will get at worst a Cat 1 up here, but if it follows the projected path, Miami and the whole SE corridor is F'd, Orlando will get slammed, and Jax will have large amounts of flooding. I pray it pushes out into the Atlantic. The Low pressure front is pushing through Orlando now. I hope it speeds up to help push North quicker. You are right, this will be devastating if it continues as projected.

Orlando will just be CAT 1 probably if it comes all the way up from the bottom of the state.

In Lighthouse Point, northeast broward county. Under mandatory evac. Heading out tomorrow to west delray to my brother's house after I finish boarding up the in-laws house.

Not going all that far, but at least I'll be away from the life threatening storm surge that's possible in my hood (though if current track holds I'll be staying closer to the eye).

Monday should be interesting...

After the 11pm update, they are estimating Cat 3 for Orlando. We'll see. I would love nothing more than to say that you were right.

Sarasota/Siesta Key here. Prep done, have a place to ride it out. Hopefully we avoid most of the bad stuff. Stay safe everyone.

They are full of crap if it comes from the bottom of the state at 16 mph. Major hurricanes lose about half their wind speed at the 12 hour mark over standard land. They are just saying that to keep people on their toes.

I don't think so. It's supposed to be a Cat 3 from all I'm hearing and we'll get the eye wall. This thing may hit Miami as a Cat 5.

See above they are exaggerating. If it goes about 16 mph even from Miami to Orlando it wont even be 90 mph in Orlando. They are prone to doing that stuff. I will take bets it wont be a 3 in that scenario however.

SE of Ocala on North side of Lake Weir. Old wood house that is tough as hell (hand made 2x4s in walls) so should be OK.
With Shock Top, a bit of crown and some good ol Virginia sippin whisky we'll manage
Also have to keep an eye on Mom's place in Summerfield... Not the retiree living part the "Been there since 71" part

If there ever was a state that needs an enema it's this one

The damage that Matthew did in terms of people's psyche is evident and seriously disturbing. The amount of people referencing that in comparison to Irma is insane. Even '04 was more an inconvenience than a devastation. Anyone who dealt with Andrew and/or the relief truly gets what these storms can do. Not sure anyone who didn't live through it really understands it. Really hope I'm wrong, but this looks bad.

If you'd lost your home to one of those 04' storms you'd feel differently.

Charlie was amazing (in a very bad way). If it was a bigger storm, it might be the benchmark

Casselberry just outside Orlando. Would leave but my wife has collected a zoo of stray animals she doesn't want to have to try and take.

No disrespect intended there. But roofs and occasional homes were lost in '04, which was devastating from a personal standpoint. Whole neighborhoods and portions of cities were wiped out with Andrew. There's a reason there are now "Andrew" codes. That's all I meant. Storms like this are different on a macro level.

The neighborhood I live in was wiped off the map by Ivan. In fact, most of the coast from Navarre Beach to the Alabama line was wiped clean. As in nothing but the slab & maybe a few studs left.

Hell, even an entire bridge spanning Escambia bay on I-10 was washed away.

In Orlando we had 100mph winds for Charlie and it spawned tornados that did a lot of damage. Worst part for us was it stalled and we had horizontal rain against north wall of the house for 24 hours and that water got in. I was in a single story block house with buried power then and we were up and running in no time. Now I live in a 2 story stick house surrounded by old oaks. If Irma comes through with 115 mph winds it's gonna be bad here. And the power is all strung op on power poles that poke through the oaks. Dis gunna be bad for me.

Charley was very similar it terms of leveling force. Obviously Andrew was stronger and hit a more populated area. Also, the poor response to Andrew created new laws and codes. Andrew was worse than Charley, but a very big portion of that was due to factors outside of the actually storm. Look at the level of looting in SFL versus Port Charlotte. The citizens helped to make Andrew horrible. It basically turned almost 3rd world for awhile, for no real good reason.

Basil Hayden is also on sale at a decent price. But yeah, Knob Creek is good stuff, think it's $23 a bottle if you buy two

Meh, just buy the cheap crap like I do, Old Crow. That is, if you mix it with cola like me, no sense in wasting $$ on expensive stuff. Taste the same to me once mixed, I guess if you like it straight, it's a different story, but I haven't reached that level of alcoholism yet. Lol
