Something to think about: Mullen was right there with Urban Meyer when he completely revamped the Bowling Green and Utah programs. If you’ve read Urban’s book, he describes in detail what a major process it was. Mullen was there for all that - he learned from one of the best ever. That’s why I feel more comfortable that we’re at least going to be able to watch respectable football again. As far as championships, God only knows. But one step at a time.

I'm relieved he's not Saban. You can't out-Saban Saban. We need to be Florida. Athletes. Speed. Hopefully some well-conceived confusion.
I never wanted anyone that Saban has touched.

Law laid out an interesting description of Urban's base secret to success a month or so ago. Defense and special teams. Load the offense with athletes and let 'em play. And, of course, be very good at recruiting and motivating.

I'm gonna say mullens off to good start. He pretty much assembled his staff within days and its full of good recruiters. He didn't have string it out 3 months and hire a bunch of guys from random junior colleges.Got a commitment out of a linemen we didn't have to beat out fiu for.

I think he'll get the talent level up ,bring some stability here and he's super pumped to be here. There's my "positive" buzz.

I also want to apologize for making an ass outa myself. I don't want us to lose. It was just very disappointing at the time. I'm finally reaching the acceptance stage lol.

We can hope. I get what you are trying to say...the problem is it's not just trying to replicate a formula or process. So much more goes into it. I won't go into some long diatribe but it's very difficult to replicate the success Meyer had for a variety of reasons.

We can hope though.

You're all forgiven. Now let's haul in some recruits and get back to where we belong.

That's no well-kept secret. Urban said it himself in his book.

Agree 78...I felt most of us wanted to vent and rant, Mullen?!?!? For real?!?!
Now most have taken a deep breath and accepted that we have Mullen for at least 3 years. Meh... sure looks like he wants to be here, & I’ve seen more pics in 3 Days with recruits than 3 years with Butters. The only Butters pics I remember were with Eddie in the car, damn fat ass.
Fields would bring that swag back + dry hump those Dawgs, instant high.
Frankly I’ve been tuned in to the UT calamity more than our new coach, now that has got me ROTFL!
Corral looks the part to me, have a good friends old coach out in Cali who has watched him for 3 yrs. he swears his vision of the field is pro quality. Coach has told my buddy he’s luvs watching the wideouts, and he will look back at pocket when someone’s open and Corrals already got the ball in the air. Says he can’t remember that really ever happening before consistently.

I’m really curious. Not one response to my question in the “I’m Done” thread. Who exactly is done?

Who is not attending games in person anymore?
Who will refuse to watch on TV?
Who will no longer follow the team?
Who will no longer buy Gator gear? Wear Gator gear?
Who will no longer support the team...financially or otherwise?

Obviously cant get a gauge on the entire fan base but this board is full of rabid Gator fans. It would be interesting to see who is checking out. Each of our expectations for the future may be different but just curious if anyone is actually walking away.

I’m predicting big turnout at Gator Club meetings, O&B game and 90k at the home opener. My personal crowd has all had almost an identical reaction to recent developments. Most of my friends wanted Frost...a few wanted Kelly(I cant stand the guy) .nobody had Mullen at the top of their list. We were really excited about the possibilities with Frost. But nearly all of us have moved to at least feeling like this might work out .....to some with genuine excitement for the future. Myself, an eternal optimist, is really warming up to the idea that we may be better off with a guy who wants to be here. And I have slowly began to understand most top tier coaches don’t want any part of us. I’m kinda glad we got Dan rather than going through the Tennessee humiliation of having coach after coach publicly spurn our offer.

From horrible to decent is OK I guess. I'm not expecting any mountain tops. Maybe next cycle.

dont sweat it buddy. We knew you were just venting. We were all a bit frustrated with how things played out but I think we’re all seeing the new HCs fire and energy and really starting to get excited about it.

In contrast to the past two hires where there was lots. Maybe we're turned off by the hire, maybe we're sick of UF's coaching hiring miscues. Maybe, just maybe the Kelly fiasco made us all a bit numb to it all.

Or maybe it's a combination of the three.

It's more than a bit weird that we have a new Florida coach and there is this little interest.

Then again, maybe that's not so bad. The upside is bigger.

I think it's because we all know who Dan Mullen is, and what his strengths and weaknesses are. We know what we're getting: Mullen's version of the Meyer spread option, paired with Grantham's boom-or-bust blitz heavy 3-4 defense.

The only real question is recruiting. We know Mullen sucks at recruiting, but Grantham and Gonzales don't. So, we'll see if his staff balances out his weaknesses enough.

I’m as excited for this next period of Gator Football as I would be knowing I was getting a Christmas full of socks and underwear.

When you’ve been outta socks for years (see Butters) and all your underwear has sh*t stains (see Chump) on them, getting new ones is a little exciting isn’t it?
