Can we now be glad we have Mullen and not....

So many teams with spots open seemed to pass on him. It's possible that there is a major skeleton in that closet.

Its awfully hard to keep a character blight under wraps in this day and age. I think it's the lack of experience combined with losing big to UCF in the conference championship.

One more solid year for Memphis should put Norvell on the main radar.

He has to be part of one of the cartels or something with the way he's avoided. An opening at the flagship school within his state, 2 other openings at SEC schools that border his state, plus UF, and I don't think he even got an interview. Something's wrong there.

And I'll continue to say that going from one unbalanced approach to another isn't going to make anyone happy for very long. Losing games 56-49 would get old just as quickly as losing them 17-10.He'd definitely put up some points, but I'm not sure how well rounded he is. I would've been ok with it, the same as I am with Mullen. But he is far from a slam dunk.

I'm far from sold. I will say that Franks did things I didn't see him do at all last year, like coming off the read on the sideline when the numbers were bad and finding the guy in the middle rather than mindlessly throwing it into coverage or running out of bounds 5 yards behind the LOS. That's not enough to declare Mullen savior. UK is a step up in competition, but even dominating them will not be entirely convincing. If we go to MSU undefeated and come out with a win (seeing as how we always manage to blow it somehow with at least one team from the west) and recruiting momentum continues to build, I may start to get a lot more excited about Mullen.

What will you do if Mullen actually improves and turns out to be a damn fine hire?

You don't actually watch football I'm assuming.

No. 14 UCF beat No. 20 Memphis in double-overtime in a thrilling AAC Championship Game on Saturday, 62-55.

I don't think anyone in the "wait and see" crowd wants to be right about Mullen. At least not the ones who actually went to Florida and/or bleed orange & blue. Believe me: if I'm 100% wrong on this, I'd be the first to admit it 2-3 seasons from now. Heck, I'd admit it if he proves me wrong this season and does something unexpected (like beat a top 10 LSU or georgia).

Nothing would make me happier than Mullen turning out to be a the right choice for the job since it means our decade+ era of offensive futility is over and Florida is once again a consistent top 10-15 program and nationally relevant.

That’s the thing. You say you don’t judge him by Bama standards and then turn around and say he’s mediocre in every aspect. Which is it? Because he went beyond all expectations and history at MSU. That isn’t me that is a fact. You can honestly look it up. You’re never going to bullshyt me but you can continuously keep bullshytting yourself all you want. The question was who was the definite better coach? And there isn’t one. You’re going off your own future projections of a mid level coach at Memphis who literally nobody tried to hire, and Fleck who nobody is sure of yet, which you call a great recruiter based off literally nothing, to replace Mac, a guy who heavily fragmented the fan base and the administration.

Keep spinning traz. If he is successful, you’re never living any of this down.

No, I actually have watched a football game, including this one. I forgot Memphis made it close. I still think there's hesistancy from P5 programs to hire him over experience. That's just a guess.

P5 programs hire coordinators ALL the time and the failure rate is about the same as hiring someone else's mediocre coach.

Norvell was a head coach last time I checked.

Right but i meant the "too little HC experience" angle.

There is definitely SOMETHING there.
I'm just guessing why he hasn't been hired. Had it been up to me, he'd be our guy now.

Why doesn't Lincoln Riley get more run? Look what the guy did in his first season. That's nothing short of amazing.

Wait a minute. What’s all this talk about losing to South Alabama or ranked vs ranked record? I’ve literally heard nothing of this.

I honestly don’t get it. It’s not days or weeks leading up to or following the hire. It’s not the dull, down time of summer. We’re a week into the season, less than 48 hours from our first SEC game, have started to gain some recruiting momentum, and are resembling a competent football team for the first time in nearly a decade...and we’re still railing against someone who we think will be mediocre here.

I’m all in for complaining if your fears materialize. I was done with WM after uga ‘11 and spent most of my time griping in every thread, but generally after losses or following a terrible season. Not during the fall before anything bad has even happened.

There are plenty of things I don’t love about DM, his system, his DC and more. I don’t know that we’re in the best I hands or in track for a title. But I’m also not going to stand around stomping my feet just to do it.

Not knocking anyone as I know the intentions are there for all of us. I just think we should relax a little and stop expecting the worst as we’ve recently been programmed to do. This season could be a lot more fun than most of us expected. If it isn’t, we can light the torches then.
