Law, you and I are not the only Butters bashers on here, but we are 2 of the most ardent and consistent. We saw last year that Butters was a terrible head coach. I am glad that these types of articles appear b/c it will bring the pumpers around to at least open their eyes. Winning the SEC East (i.e. result oriented only) twice has given many the wrong impression b/c when you peel back the skin, the product on the field has been well below average. It puts guys like us in a big conundrum b/c winning this way can't last forever, yet it delays the process of what truly needs to be done. The faster you reach the bottom the faster you can attempt to ascend. Reaching the bottom as we appear to be doing is the worst thing possible that can happen. I want any national coverage that we can get of the horrendous Butters out there as loudly as possible!!

What about the kids who were uncommitted he didnt pull them either. I don't believe in the word of mouth commitment, half of the time when a kid commits that early it changes. Meyer came in from Utah and in his 2nd cycle was pulling in top 3 classes full of 4-5* players. You either have it or you don't and Mac don't have it.
I do not necessarily disagree with you. Mac may be absolutely horrible at recruiting. Here I am making 2 statements. One, we need to be talking to kids earlier and we have not been doing that for several years now...I believe started under Meyer. You don't have to flip them then. You get to know them, etc.

And Two, there is not a Meyer on every corner (someone who can flip people/players). It takes someone who is damn good.

Well now 3. Meyer was not necessarily the cat's meow. He crashed at Florida and left a **** pile and chose some doozies. I do not want anymore Hernandez's or Harvins on the team.

The getting on kids early is mostly a cop out for staffs that cant recruit well. Look at Meyer when he took over, look at Smart now and even look at Muschamp (might be bad at coaching but can recruit) here and now at SC.

It's one thing when the fans notice it and start questioning it on a message board, it's another entirely different thing when the national sports media starts writing articles with quotes from local high school coaches.

The fans in tune with the program understand things are bad, but now the whole nation knows...

Fair point. I'm just tired of hearing and seeing the same thing... mostly I'm tired of that narrative being accurate. I want to see some f'n momentum and good news!

Did you interpret that as I was blaming posters? NO... I am blaming the lack of good news and I agree that is on the staff.

THe first thing I read is the fsu douch so take it with a grain of salt or strychnine
Gerard Ross, a former FSU and NFL defensive back, is now an assistant coach and oversees recruiting for Trinity Christian in Jacksonville, a team that has produced several ESPN 300 prospects and multiple five-star recruits including Kevin Toliver (LSU) and most recently Shaun Wade – who just enrolled at Ohio State.

With out-of-state schools like Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson having so much success, Ross thinks Florida has to rethink its recruiting strategy.

“From what I can see, they have to do a better job of identifying the younger studs and kind of lovin’ on those guys really early the way the other big dogs do like Florida State, Alabama, Ohio State,” Ross said. “They identify those young kids pretty early on and do a good job making sure that ‘hey man, we love you, we want you to come here.’ From my experience and how [Florida has] been around us, they tend to wait until that kid has those big-time, Power 5 offers and then they try to sneak in.
And he coaches at Trinity Christain so they recruit and play public schools that dont............double douche

I agree with you that there are not Meyer's around every corner, but Mac's recruiting efforts are way below average.

That's a fair point coach as I noticed he's a clown, but what he said regarding how we recruit, by jumping in at the last minute, is something several members have identified as an issue with Mac and his staff.

Im still not sure how Mac who has only been here for two years was reasonably supposed to have these "long term" relationships with these kids before he got here.

I dunno, I hate to say this because if true it means we are worse off than we think, but UF's recruiting process smacks of laziness or ineptness. Going after juco players and transfers from other schools does not take nearly as much hard work as does working the high schools in your own state. The UF brand never suffered from lack of interest from Florida high school players, until now.

Whether it's biased or not, the article does make some good points and ones we have all observed ourselves.

Talk about shooting the messenger.

Gus Scott, former UF player, is the head coach at Trinity.
