Imprisoned? It's called keeping a commitment you made to a school in exchange for a full scholarship, and players did it for generations. If some jackass wants to transfer, then he should have to sit out a year like it was before.

I think the quick way to fix that is for the conferences to set the rules on transfers. Don’t leave it to the schools.
The conferences can only enforce rules on transferring in. If they collaborate on rules affecting transfers out, they'd likely be hit with the anti-trust hammer.

Add: and the conferences with the most rigid rules would only hurt themselves vs the other conferences.

Of the three scenarios for athletes losing their scholarships, one is self inflicted(academics), one is just part of life(injuries) and while I won’t say for a certainty that no kid has ever lost his scholarship for poor performance, I also can’t think of an example either. Meyer was as cut throat as it gets and guys like Lorenzo Edwards and Justin Williams were busts here for all 5 years and contributed absolutely nothing. It’s hard for me to imagine he could’ve pulled that trigger as easily as you describe at any given moment but didn’t due to just being such a nice guy.

All of this really just leads back to what I’ve said from the beginning. If there is a major shift in scheme due to a coaching change, and a player no longer fits, I have no problem with being able to transfer. The issue is we’re seeing kids pack up and leave for no reason at all. And again, as I pointed out, it’s having an adverse effect on HS kids as well. Not to mention the guys who go in and are still just sitting there because it turns out out that nobody wants them. So it’s not just about fans or even coaches. Much like NIL it has become the wild Wild West and needs to be curtailed with some parameters.
I cannot speak for those two players, or what Meyer saw in them. But scholarships are evaluated annually, and the UAA did at one point try to move to the B10 model. To make them seem like a more moral organization in line with the academic standards. It didn't happen.

Three examples from Napier who were cut, Graham, McDainiel, and Thomas in June of 22.
Hambrick was let go of his scholarship by Spurrier for the embarrassment of the Sugar Bowl dinner (extreme example)

As far as the transfer rules and NIL. They are a mess which was created a mess from the NCAA putting their heads in the sand. There should be some guidelines, and Chip Kelly actually had a good point in a presser before his bowl game about this. If the schools are going to treat the kids like employees who they can break off annually, the kids deserve the same freedom. Without a real governing body to control what is going on, it's going to be the wild west. We keep on throwing this down at the students, who are not the ones in charge.

In my opinion if a kid wants to transfer once, fine, it's not the right fit. At this point this is beyond the conferences, their needs to be a true "league" office for lack of a better term. There should be a new venue stream that isn't associated to NIL, which could take some of that issue out of the equation. This is one area where the NFL was built as a better business than College Football.

The NFL, like other professional sports have player unions which bargain on their behalf with the Owners. The revolving door of "amateur" athletes does not have an equivalent. I agree there needs to be enforceable guidelines but in our society it will be decided for eternity by and thru litigation.

I know and understand the difference. But at some point there will be a breaking point. If the NCAA got ahead of the issue, and they had 30 years to do it, it wouldn't be the way it is now.

The three guys Napier cut were for repeated failed drug tests, or so I read.

Nice walk down memory lane with Hambrick. Probably should be in the ROH just for that return against uga in ‘94, but I don’t make these rules. Also, didn’t he break a water glass on Anthony Riggins’ face at the Sugar Bowl pregame dinner?

They were cut because of the numbers game, we were at 88 or 89 scholarships and I couldn't remember the fourth guy that got cut.

On Hambrick, and if I remember right and Riggin's jaw.

I admit, it was a decent package. But for what the university received, it was sometimes less than the value of the athlete. But okay. If it were you, which would you like more, the money and full ride with ability to transfer only the full ride and handcuffs?
How about this, These kids have to spend two years in the military before any secondary education.
No??

Then they take that Fn FULL scholarship, free room and board, free meals a training staff, a pampered lifestyle afforded to them with all of the nuances that come the way of a Full scholarship athlete. Go to class, fulfill your commitment, Just like a kid does when he signs on the line for boot camp. You think a kid can "transfer" out of the military?

I'm over the top tired of these fn pampered fuchtards demanding!, any damn thing.
A 17 year old kid hasn't done shiit.
STFU , go to class, bust your ass, get an education and a lifestyle afforded to less than 1 PERCENT of our total population and STFU.

You think there aren't MILLIONS of us High School athletes out here that would have DIED for a full ride scholly???

Yeah, My full ride was to Great Lakes Illinois for boot camp and school then to a ship.

You did your Navy schooling at Great Lakes? Were you a Fire Control? My son did his schooling there. Including boot camp, He spent 11 1/2 months in Great Lakes. He said he's never been so cold for so long in his entire life

Yes, Fire Control Tech. Reported to boot camp Dec 1st. :lol2:
Yes, I agree, the coldest place I've ever been in my life. Once the Lake froze over, The wind would blow off the ice and it would be 40 to 50 below with the wind chill.
Our "Uniform of the day" was Long johns, dungarees, a wool sweater, dungaree shirt, Pea coat, ski mask and watch cap over top of the ski mask. :lol2:
Left Great Lakes, reported to my ship............In Bath Maine. Thought I was going to die.:lol2: All good though, I eventually ended up in Mayport.

Yep. The whole Great Lakes is just a freezer for 6 months a year. In the "banana belt" on the east (Huron) coast of Michigan, we didn't have to generate sorties if the temp was below -40. That happened too often to recount.

Remember that time when Meyer awarded the walk on kicker a scholly but made him kick a field goal after practice to earn it?

I heard Urbs made him kick about a 68 yarder into the wind and thought there was no way in hell he would make it...This was his reaction when he realized he was losing a scholly for a specialist :lol2:

Urbs never carried 85 scholarships. He only broke 80 once if I recall correctly.

Yeah, so now we're in an era where your starting effing QB can just up and leave without penalty. It's beyond belief.
It’s swerving close to driving off committed fans. An Oklahoma friend threw up her hands when I mentioned Gabriel and said, “ I’m really starting to not care anymore.” A Bull Gator friend who owns a second home in Gainesville because he takes his grandchildren to see many Gator sports told me this evening “I watch basketball and I don’t even know who these guys are anymore. The same is happening in every sport. How am I supposed to care? Why am I doing this?”

Both of those conversations happened this evening.

Stuck a fork through his hand for reaching for his steak. Rumor has it, thats never happened once in the history of the outback bowl.
