Not Charlie Strong...I think in three years we'll see that the Texas experiment turned bad.

I'd love Spurrier, but won't happen.

How about Dan Quinn?
Defensive-minded or not, Charlie just signed a ginormous contract with the 'Horns. Does anyone here seriously consider him a a candidate NOW?

As I've said all along, when Urban quit the first time, in Dec 2009, Charlie had just signed with The 'Ville. If, immediately after the 2009 SECCG, Urban KNEW he was going to "retire" and STAY "retired," then he should have told Foley right after that loss to Bama, and told Foley to hire Charlie before the Cardinals came calling between the SECCG and the Sugar Bowl.

It's waaay too late now to get him.

I'm telling you guys Art Briles makes the most sense.

-plenty of prior HC experience
-offensive guru who has run several different types of offenses at high levels
-turned around more than one struggling program
-not already coaching a tier 1 college or pro team
-we can afford him
-not too young or old for the job
-high moral character
-knows how to prepare for and win big games

Read his bio on Wikipedia and see if you don't agree. Keep in mind that going 7-6 at a school like Houston is a different level of accomplishment than going 7-6 at a place like this.

and he could die soon, he is very old, this message board would kill

Yeah, he's 59. Practically has one foot in the grave.

I love Briles, but I've heard ten times over now he's a Texas guy to the core and he isn't leaving the state of Texas.

So, are we to just give up?

:dunno:
I had a professor who didn't like that we had a football team at all. His thought was that all the great academic institutions don't have football. The Ivy League, MIT, etc.

Maybe he was onto something. Maybe we should just think of ourselves as a great academic institution.

Then your professor is an idiot because there is a whole football conference dedicated to nothing but Ivy League teams such as Harvard and Princeton.

Don't all the Ivy league schools have football? Like most professors, he was an idiot.

Forget coaching. I can't believe they still let him drive.

I think he meant they didn't have good football teams. I e the school focused on academics not football.
