So with the recruiting btching that is going on, and the complaining that at 5-1 so far in this season Mac has to do a hell of a lot better next season, I figured....what are we looking at?

We lose on OFFENSE
Appleby, Fulwood, Thompson

We lose on DEFENSE
Maye, Tabor, Wilson, Cox, Ivie, Davis, McMillan

That's assuming Tabor and Wilson leave early. Maybe Brantley goes early as well from Defense. Do we want to put Cronk down as a transfer now? (I'll hold off).

Yes, Defense takes a hit, but all starters on Offense return, and half of the Defense. Not losing a lot of numbers, so (experienced) depth should be an improvement.

We play:
MICH (in TX)
N. COL
TN
@KY
VAN
LSU
A&M
UGA (in JAX)
@MIZZ
@USCe
UAB
F$U

Other than MICH, I don't see any I'd put in as a L now. I do see 'possible' losses against LSU, A&M, and possibly F$U. The rest I see as very winnable with Mac's 3rd year And that's assuming no incoming freshman are asked to make an impact (depth on defense is needed), and we don't change staff (though I expect us to upgrade).

I see the season as anywhere from 8-4 to 11-1. Even at 8-4, if the product on the field has significantly progressed, I think I'll be ok.

That said, I'm more interested on how we finish this season. One game at a time.

The bitching is being driven by the prospect of a coach at UF potentially going 8-4 in year three.
I don't care what coach Mac inherited, that is unacceptable.

Offense returns all the key parts and defense gets gutted. Might be an interesting season, but at least all of our road games are a joke.

Year 3 has been the worst year of each of our last 4 coaches, including Spurrier and Meyer(not counting his sleepwalk 2010 year). There's usually a gap in talent, the initial transition class--which are typically pretty weak--are reaching the point of being heavily relied on, attrition and transfers start to really pose a problem, etc.

I'm ok with being a bit down on Mac. But the idea of him struggling in year 3 wouldn't be unique.

Reasonable TLB. And always a few chances at a freshman Callaway or two. Such chances should
be on the increase as Mac advances. ( If not then his very next recruit class had better be top 5.??)
Means two more "wait 'til next year"s will amount to 4 years here and truly 3 years of "relationships recruiting"
Mac arrived too late in his first year to establish any ongoing relationships with anybody, any recruits and
recruit's parents.??

I'm not seeing enough on offense to make me believe we'll be able to win a bunch of shootouts next year....then again with the weak east competition we might be able to sleepwalk through our divisional games. TAMU, LSU and Michigan could all get ugly.

The offense should be dominant next year, enough so that it should offset the losses on D (which hopefully won't be as bad as feared considering the DT monsters already committed). O Line with tons of experience and additional year of age, Callaway, Powell, Cleveland and the rest of promising young crop of wide receivers, Goolsby and, what should be the centerpiece of the offense, Scarlett and Perine. That should be a formidable offense.
QB is important, but Bama's offense has thrived on excellent weapons at the skill positions in the absence of talented qbs (McElroy, McCarron). If Mac's offense is not prolific by next year, I will have seen enough.

Sharpe's probably gone.............I know, right?
Brantley's gone and Anzalone's probably gone too.
Offense should be better.
Defense will be young.
And Fock Michigan!

Thanx Bart. I was going to add Brantley to the guaranteed underclassmen on defense who will leave along with Tabor and Wilson. I also think Anzalone leaves, given his injury history and would not blame him. I also thought about Sharpe but he would not be missed in my opinion. And to be funny, I would be on board with Dawson, Washington and Harris also leaving. The defense is going to take a big hit anyway, so might as well hope that the guys we know can't play a lick leave also.

I think around 8 wins is realistic. The depth at defense is frightening, and until this offense starts scoring in the red zone, I'm not confident in this team winning shootouts. If the team finishes strong this year, then Mac has nothing to worry about after an 8, or even 7, win season. If they drop a couple games this next month, then Mac ends up on the hot-seat going into 2018.
