I'm no pumper but striking out isn't really the right word for the recruiting either. We did get a corner and that's Watkins which is why I don't think there is a huge concern although missing on Boykin hurts.

The O-line, well Barnes was basically UNC bound after the summer and NPF we didnt have a chance with until Mullen was hired. Again, we should recruit better but it's not like we totally just blew it

I like Watkins, but if he plays CB it's likely bc we have nobody else. Just too versatile and dynamic with the ball in his hands to not be on O. Plus, he has a pretty small frame and will have trouble with weight, which is probably why I didn't see one service list him as a CB (plus he didn't actually play too much CB in hs or camps). Even if he is a CB, we really needed two. If you don't think only having two proven CBs in a press-man scheme is a concern then you need to lay off the weed. The combo of personnel and scheme is probably the worst at UF this century (06' was bad personnel wise, but we ran a scheme that could hide it).

I'm not blaming anyone with the oline class (I've already said that the only thing I blame mullen for here is losing Davis), but that doesn't change the fact that we struck out on two of the three. Again, not blaming anyone, but it is what it is and getting another olineman that wasn't a reach since OT was a big position of need would have made the class better than decent.

These aren't the reasons I think you're a pumper. Acting like beating lsu was a big deal when we know how lsu looked the two weeks after that is something only a pumper would say. Getting your panties in a wad, bc someone doesn't think mullen is very good so saying dumb sh!t like how I want the Gators to lose just to be right makes you seem like a pumper.

There are legitimate concerns, but all is not as bleak as the true non-believers insist. I never said I don't believe we have some talent - I just don't know how much - and whether some of it was irretrievably ruined by the previous staff (Franks). Those concerns may vanish like a fart in a wind storm if we come out of the Spring with some positive answers. As to the "no doubt about it, DM is going to be a bust crowd," you don't seem to get that our new HC created a winner at a venue that is among the worst in major CFB. He also did it in the toughest division in all of sports. Has he been a "Wow" super success in every respect? No, the poor showing against ranked opponents is a matter of record, and another legitimate concern. But before anyone starts quoting all the excuses that haven't been made, for a failure that hasn't yet occurred, you might want to rethink your own corrosive, knee-jerk pessimism before attacking those who do not share it. I have an open mind about our prospects for the future, and IMO, a realistic grasp on the challenges that lay before us. I think there is a very good chance that DM will return us to respectability in fairly short order. There is also a lesser chance that he won't. But the constant, chicken little nonsense is really getting old.

It's an actual message board not Swamp Gas. More like the constant handicapping of Mullen's poor SEC record and constant excuses made for his record against ranked teams. Guess what...it's even worse overall...4-29? Can you say 4 and 29? Worse than Mac. Say what? Worse than Mac. Queue all the "but's" and "outmanned" cries.

I am truly in a wait and see approach having been burned on 3/4 football hires. But here is the deal...I am willing to give him a shot and am on record saying as much. I thought he did well this recruiting cycle. He will have to do leaps and bounds better though. Top 5 or bust or we'll be hearing this outmanned baloney for the next 2-3 years.

Thank you for the insight. Look, before this gets out of hand, I don't have any issue with you personally, but you do occasionally mock people who have another POV and then get your feelings hurt when someone calls you out on your persistent negativity and apparent touchiness. And for the record, if I didn't like a real forum, I wouldn't be here - not that that is any concern of yours. Just saying. Peace out.

LSU, TAMU, Auburn & a few other SEC teams beg to differ regarding Mullen’s ability to coach. They all lost their ass when they played at MSU. Playing on the road is never easy in the SEC, especially when you’re playing with the subpar talent pool he worked with at Cowbell. This with most of the team made up of players from the state of Mississippi. Hell, Alabama was effing lucky they left Starkville with a win last year. Lucky.

He coached disciplined teams with low turnover ratios and emphasis on strength training.

hesitanty, i admit, I agree. I wasn't a fan of this hire and there no doubt there are warning flags in Mullins history, such as losses to mid-majors and the the inability to have a winning record against similar teams such as Ole Miss and and Arky.

there is no doubt however he did well in this recruiting class and landed more blue chippers than he did the last four years at cowbell. we will see.

as you guys know I'm not opposed to bashing a bad coach. but so far he has done everything right.

Sorry I have huge X's and O's concerns about the guy. We'll see if they go away. I haven't seen him win any big games as a HC. Let's hope that changes in GVille.

I don't give a flying fvkk about turnover ratios. Wuerrfel threw 2 interceptions every game. it doesn't matter when you're winning by 40.

I'm tired of playing boring-ass Alabama / Notre Dame 1950s football.

I'm tired of wasting offensive talent and I'm tired of being unattractive to offensive recruits because we play that crap. I'm tired of trying to make it easy on the defensive coordinator. I'm tired of just worrying about holding the ball, running the clock and getting a good punt off.

the SEC is full of shytty pass coverage defenses, worse than in the late 80s and 90s, all focused on putting 8 goons in the box. we aren't the only ones with cornerbacks and safeties that get burned if you throw at them. actually we probably have one of the best secondaries.

if only we had somebody with the balls to throw the ball, and I don't mean throwing in front of the linebackers.

That's totally reasonable. We may be in greater agreement than I thought. The only thing I perhaps see differently is that it's been so damn long since we had anything that resembles a coherent, effective offense, that I'm like a drowning man grasping at straws. And to be totally honest, I complained about the spread option and DM's "unimaginative" play calling throughout his 4 years at UF - just like so many others. But the last 9 years have changed my point of view considerably. I'm still not "crazy" about the SO, but I'll gladly take the results we had then, as opposed to the misery of the last 9 years. Let's hope for the best. Go Gators!

O happy day! The donkey is smiling (if somewhat reluctantly) on the Gators! I feel strengthened and renewed already! Hurray Spring!

I went through this right after he was hired:

Charleston So: W, UF has better talent and it is a home game.
UK: W, A UF coach can NOT start with league lost to a team with worse talent that no UF coach, not Zook, not Muschamp, not McElwain has lost to in 30 plus years and no UF coach has lost to UK at home since 1979.
Co State: W, UF has better talent and it is a home game.
at UTn: W, UF should beat UTn even there as UF has better talent and UTn has a rookie head coach.
at Miss State: W, UF should beat UTn even there as UF has better talent and Miss State has a head coach new to D1A and the SEC.
LSU: W, Mullen should not lose to coach O ever and it is at home.
at Vandy: W, UF coaches can not succeed losing at Vandy and UF of course has better talent
UGa: T, UF has had great success against these guy recently. They won't have all those SRs next year. UF really should go back to winning this game, but we shall see.
UMo: W, UF has better talent and must win such a game at home.
SoCar: W, Mullen can not afford to lose to Muschamp and UF has better talent and the game is at home.
Idaho: W, No UF coach can lose such a game.
at FSU: T, They have a new coach too, but maybe a bit more talent than UF.

So I will be disappointed with anything less than 10 wins next year. I could see a slip up someplace along the line so I will only be slightly disappointed with 9 wins. 8 wins or less is pretty much a disaster with that schedule and UF's talent.

In addition I expect to see a huge improvement on offense. Marginally better is not enough. If UF scores 7 points a game more next year then UF will be 50th ish in the country in scoring. That is what needs to happen THIS YEAR. UF needs to go from 2.3 to at least 3.3 offensive TDs per game.

I care a great deal about turnovers. If your turnover ratio is too good, it means you are not really trying. You are failing in understanding running a risk reward offense. You are taking too little risk and thus not really trying.
