I like Steele and he is pretty good at what he does. Here's to hoping he's right. :drunk:

He has to be taking into account Zaire's legs. Even if Zaire is a guy who comes in on occasion, he's still a hell of a double threat and a good change of pace from Franks. I don't think Zaire is going to learn the whole playbook in the next 9.5 weeks, so that's going to have to be his role.

Taking this guy at his word, but if true and Steele has us ranked that high, are you buying?

Could he be basing this off Zaire running the read option?

Discuss.

Just to revisit this.....Steele has UF as the #6 best RB group in the SEC. I'm not sure where that twitter dude got #2 in the nation:

Breakdown of Phil Steele's 2017 SEC positional unit rankings

You understand RB group ranking doesn't necessarily mean rushing yardage ranking will be the same? Perhaps he's accounting for the OLine being more experienced and hopefully stronger after an off-season in the weight room? Perhaps he's also accounting for a better QB this year making the passing game an actual threat, thereby forcing safeties out the box and opening up the running lanes some? More factors affect the run game than just the position group ranking of your RBs.

Gus Mahlzahn is the 2nd best coach and yet, he was a TO away from getting fired last year.

Not when he has our OL at 8 in the SEC. Maybe he's assuming we won't be able to complete a pass so we'll stoop to running every play?

Honestly, other than Saban are there any good coaches in the SEC? Several great recruiters, a few that are strong on one side of the ball, but none that are good overall HCs...IMO.

Perplexing. I had heard on here that we had completely rebuilt our offense into some juggernaut that was bound to leap to 100th or something. Yet, really, we are mediocre even by SEC (=horrible offenses) standards.

Does anyone have the ranking from the last two years for these position groups?

Mahlzahn is easily the second best. He is the only remaining SEC coach that has an SECC and NC. He will be threatening this year too with that QB and offense.

Butters can play Saban 15 times a year and it would be 15 games in which Bammer could beat us by as much as they feel like scoring.

I'm still trying to figure out how anyone is worse off at QB.

Perhaps they are just going off star ratings? Butters has had a t least two 4 star QBs every year so far, however, and has failed to do dick with it.

So, since you're now giving merit to Steele's position group rankings, that means you believe him when he has us ranked #9 and as one of his dark horse teams, right?

Finally went out and bought the magazine. To clarify: he has us as the 2nd most improved rushing offense. Not the second best.

Don't know about any rankings but the running game will be effective this year.
