Imo.he was the worst. Ive never seen a D1 scholarship QB who literally couldnt throw the ball far enough to complete a screen pass to the wide side.

I never really knew what happened to him.

According to Bobby, his throwing motion was changed and everything went downhill from there.

Interesting how things worked out for Sabelhaus. He found redemption and has done pretty well for himself in Hollywood.

I thought he got in a game but I guess it was the spring game. I remember thinking wtf was that. They say he actually completed a pass though. Must have been a shortside screen.

He's now a "successful Hollywood producer," according to this article:

...which is an odd way to describe a guy who's produced only one film - an independent documentary about his high school. Weren't his parents rich?

Here's his IMDB resume, which is almost as embarrassing as his football career:

You know, there was one absolute game changer that I haven’t seen mentioned. Del Rio!

Trask, Matthews, Grossman, and if we’re honest, probably Murphy and Treon. They should’ve never been here, at least as QBs.

Related, I always got the impression that Berlin was a d-bag when he was first coming in. But he far and away exceeded my expectations for d-baggery.

Don't forget Bell who was a walk on and around 7 or 8th on the list before the season.

Shane Matthews going from being "the other QB to be implicated in gambling" and fourth string QB on a terrible offense to finishing fifth in the Heisman in '91 and having a 14-year pro career is as surprised as I have been, in a positive way, about a Florida QB.

Matthews was Mr Football in Mississippi, and was getting multiple D1 offers and SEC offers (though to the Mississippi schools). Rex Grossman was Mr Football in Indiana and a top 15 player by the National Recruiting Advisory in 1998 and in the Parade All-American Team for High School. So neither of these guys were unheralded kids coming out of high school like a high school career backup.

Imagine us landing a Mr Football Today? Then lining them up to be a 4th or 5th string QB? That seems like total fantasy now.

Mr. Football in UAE met with our staff, said great things about Florida being a family atmosphere and our facilties being historical amd having tradition, then immediately committed to Montana Tech.

I would like to see a list of top 10 of QBs that exceeded expectations. Trask is probably number 1 but I bet an interesting list could be made.

I'm hoping this is a joke, because one partial year of starting doesn't compare to some of the history we have had at the position... Trask a scholarship quarterback would go over someone like walk-on 9th string qb who lead UF to it's first SEC Title (until the UF Administration pussied out) and 4 year starter.

They just decided they wanted a running back at QB at that point. It’s like we were playing 1940s football again.

My personal favorite was when they would line up Trey at QB with Brantley to the far side wideout, expecting opposing DCs to just melt under the million different scenarios the play could produce. Instead, the DB wouldn't even bother to jog over to cover him, knowing full well that we weren't going to try it, in large part because everyone knew that a) Burton couldn't make the throw, b) Brantley couldn't catch it, and c) if by some miracle the first two unlikely events happened, Brantley--who had no interest in running--would simply fall down.

And we ran it probably a dozen times in each of the 2010-2011 seasons.

Few can.

Matthews was Mr Football in Mississippi, and was getting multiple D1 offers and SEC offers (though to the Mississippi schools). Did know that Matthews was recruited. Didn't know he was Mr Football. Surprised it wasn't Buckley(?) who went to fsu that year. But he was basically an afterthought going into 1990, so his rise to being likely a Top-5 all time would be extremely unexpected at the time. And Rex had to reach out to us to get attention because literally everyone couldn't stop talking about Berlin. So you likely wouldn't have guessed either would be the stars they ended up being. But you're right on Bell. I added that to a later post. Given the walk-on status and the heights he took himself and UF to, he has to be number 1, in my lifetime at least. If Trask somehow managed to win the SEC this season, you could put him in contention, as a scholarship from a Houston-Baptist kid is probably about the same as walking on at a place like Florida.
