That's why I've never been into recruiting much in the first place. I love college football but don't care to watch the sausage being made, with grownup coaches kissing teenagers' asses and grownup fans obsessing over "insider info" that means NOTHING until those LOI's are signed. Wake me up on Signing Day Eve and let me know who we got.A better question: why does he need a visit at all? Much less an official. He’s been here, was committed here at one point, knows the program, etc. That’s a short yes or no phone call.
It’s one of the reasons I can’t get engaged in recruiting like I used to. It doesn’t help that we’re not particularly good at it, and this isn’t some sour grapes excuse. But in any other aspect of the world, this person would be told to pound sand and get lost. In recruiting, grown adults still line up to bend over backwards for him, after having egg on their face several times before. And keep in mind, all this for a kid who at one point couldn’t qualify at Nebraska. It’s ridiculous.
Some recruitniks take it to a point that it seems like they're more into which players we're signing next then they're into watching our current players play. I think a lot of them have a hobbyist/collector type of mentality.
When I was a kid there a few boys who used to bring shoeboxes full of baseball cards to school in the springtime, and would sit on the ground trading them with each other during after-lunch recess while others of us were playing pickup baseball. I bet those guys grew up to be recruitniks lol
