If you suck at recruiting, why wouldn't you hire someone to teach you how to do it?
Recruiting isn't mullen's problem. Todd Grantham isn't mullen's problem. Special teams isn't mullen's problem.
ARROGANCE is his problem. He fixes that, which is simple to do, the rest fixes itself.
Arrogance is just one of his problems. Stubbornness, blind loyalty are two others. Plus, he just has a very awkward personality, not unlike Butters.Leopards don’t change their spots. Especially when they’re grown adults.
They do, however, sometimes get shot for sport and have their heads mounted on walls. But I feel like that’s a separate discussion.
... In spite of his penchant for stabbing in the back. He's a quit-draw artist.Don’t be in front of Alec Baldwin with a gun

Gonna change that many coaches, might as well change the head coach as well.
When Jimbo won the national championship in 2013 w/ freshman QB Jameis, he had replaced 6 coaches the previous off-season. It can be done....but Jimbo Fisher actually knows how to run a football program AND recruit. Dan doesn't.
One thing is for sure, Mullen has lost the fanbase and the team. Yeah sure, there are still the few diehard moron pumpers who will be singing his praises right until he walks out the door, but he's lost the average guy. Mullen will find a way to lose at least one more game, and I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to lose 2. Its hard to imagine Strychnine's hand not being forced should that happen.

I dont know...I kinda like a head coach with arrogance. If MuLLLLen recruited better, demanded better coaching across the board and replaced lacking coaches with good coaches then he does fix everything and has freedom to be arrogant. But he doesnt do that so him not being arrogant really isn't going to fix anything.

The negligence and job abandonment it took to get to this point. Its inexcusable but the idiot still has a $7.5 million job. "Hey guys, I kept your ineffective lame asses as long as I could... brothers forever, right?" Eventually some of those coaches will turn on him and delineate how bad a program director he was.I reached out to someone I know with direct ties to the administration, who did some digging for me. The answer they received was that there was zero chance Mullen's job was in danger. However, DC and likely some other assistant coaches were on the way out, with recruiting a higher priority.
Is there factual evidence he was looking or directing his agent to look at other opportunities? This job has been too big for him from the start. This surprises me and part of me still thinks Mullen will try and weasel his way out, as there's no way he wants to be around next year.
Could the Administration offer a DC a contract outside of Mullen's tenure? There's also no way we'll be able to get a decent DC with a lame-duck coach. Who is going to uproot his family for likely one year?
I think the coaching changes need to be out of Mullen's hands, although I realize "who would choose them"? But Mullen now is unmasked, naked. We know he can't choose coaches- or that his criteria is all the wrong reasons- but I think if we let him rebuild it's going nowhere. He must realize he's exposed and I hope like hell he feels like an incompetent joke.Yep. The problem with the "recruiting a higher priority" is some media with influence will say that the new DC and everyone else should have several years to "get their guys in" and "fix it". I'll be on the record here, Mullen has next season for an SEC title or he should be fired. I'm not saying what I want or do not want about him returning for next year, but as I've said since the pre-season, short of a losing season Mullen's job is not in danger.
So to be clear, that's not a full Joe-Biden-in-front-of-the-pope sized shart.... and a mild shart?
Yeah, but that's just a ruse to get more money... so it's okay.Blind loyalty is one way of putting it. I would also classify it as lack of prioritizing loyalty. He may keep his assistants and show loyalty to them. But he openly flirts with, or at least talks about, NFL teams as if he’s willing to pack up at any moment and leave a fan base that did a pretty good job of embracing him. And he wonders why many can’t stand him.
