FSU is certainly weaker as is UT but the flip side of that is UGA is elite, Bama is elite, UK is now consistently in or hovering the top 25, top 20 TAMU is now in our conference, Ole Miss and Auburn ranked, LSU even though they are down this year are overall much better than the 90s....even Arkansas cracked the polls this year
You're wrong plain and simple. Our schedule is easier now than it was in the 90's. FSU was a perennial top 5 team, Tenn was top 10 and UGA, Aub, Bama, LSU and the rest of the SEC were routinely top 25 and sometimes top 10. Today, we play UGA, LSU and a bunch of scrubs. Kentucky is basically like Jackie Sherril's MSU's teams from the 90's. A tough out, but still an out for a good team. There's no excuse for Dan's lack of success other than Dan himself.

I’ll say it again that despite all we’ve been through it will take one of three things to see a coaching change after this season:

(1) Lose to FSU
(2) Refuse to fire Grantham at seasons end
(3) Lose AR to the portal

It might even take two of the three given The AD’s attachment to him.

Otherwise he will be gone after next season.

He doesn't have to fire Grantham (and never would), he just doesn't have to resign him. That is how Mullen likes to "fire" coach, let their contracts run out.

The Uk/MsSt comparison is perfect. I consider both to be cyclical teams that from time to time will have a solid squad. But as long as we are recruiting at UF levels, it’s exactly as you said, a tough out but shouldn’t be a loss. Even Usce has had moments like 2000 where we’re playing them for the East in the last congregate of the season. The SEC generally has scrappy teams

I do agree that the schedule Mullen faces is less than what Spurrier faced. I still, however, feel like it’s a 2, sometimes 3, game season and don’t think the disparity is as great as some have suggested. Different characters, but still only a game or two that we should have any real excuse for losing. The only thing I’d disagree with you on is the Aub/Lsu/uga. It’s true that Aub and uga had a few moments, but for the most part they were garbage much of the 90s, specifically Lsu. Having said that, as much as I’ve gone 12 rounds with Douglas and a few others about the 90s SEC, all of those arguments were predicated on us being ok with Mullen winning 10-11 games each year(the new 9-10 wins based on 12 games). The simple fact is he isn’t doing that, so it’s irrelevant.

Only 2019 and last year(10 wins with 3 cupcakes) did he win like that and even create the discussion. But he started off losing 3 regular season games, is at four this year already, and there’s not a lot of reason to think next year won’t be comparable. Having a brief turn of events because you were forced to play a QB and system you didn’t want, and then going right back to 3-4 losses, says that is exactly what he is. The condition of the schedule is almost moot. This entire issue is on Dan Mullen not being a good enough coach, regardless of the teams he’s facing or the comparisons we’re making.

I have to question the average person's intellect. When Mullen was hired it was "look how much he won at Miss St and NOBODY wins at Miss St... he had them ranked #1". The problem, our stupid fellow fans never uncovered, is that the year before he was hired Miss St had a losing season. So that nice streak he had four(?) seasons earlier was just that. Focus only on that and you think you have a winner. Yes, they won a few more games a season over time under Mullen than with previous staffs. Even during their #1 season they slid at the end and finished just inside the top 20. The sleuths that were excited about Mullen could not discern that meant is they were never ever the #1 team. All of Miss State's previous staffs were terrible. Mullen's crew was just average. So they won a few more games than others... a few. That doesn't translate into magic at the UF level.

All one has to do is look at Miss St's recruiting before Mullen and during to realize they couldn't recruit very well, no better than previous staffs. Maybe marginally by a point or two- instead of 30th ranked classes Mullen landed a couple that were 25th. Weee.

Nothing about Mullen's performance at UF should in retrospect be surprising. It was all there to see. Take that nine win streak out of his 8+ years at Miss St and you have a very marginal staff.

Miss State is a bad program. I think you could've been pissed about his hiring here, livid at where we're currently at, and still give him credit for what he did in Starkville in the West of 2009-2017. The bigger issue should've been why did he stay that long? He'd taken Msu as far as anyone is going to take them in 2014 and either couldn't parlay it into a better job(poor interviews) or didn't' care to. Either way, it wasn't a good sign for us. But again, I warmed to the hire primarily because I was literally terrified to even think of who plan D was going to be. A better admin with a better focus on football would've landed Frost all day and we didn't. In retrospect, maybe also not a good hire. But our swing and miss by SS is why we had to settle for Mullen.

Turned down by Frost and Kelly...both ended up being bad hires at their respective schools but we literally settled on Mullen. What concerns me most is the top three guys are all bad coaches....soooo i guess the UAA and our AD cant identify talent

Of course they can't. It's a bad combination of Mississippi stupidity and a group that learned under Foley. That's why many of us have said they need a complete overhaul down to the receptionist at the front. Clean house.

Don't disagree; problem is these people have insulated themselves from that ever happening. It's a "buddy-buddy" system that is collectively ruining Gator athletics

In Chip Kelly's defense, he was a good coach until he was hired by the Iggles..... then as all things that get hired by the Iggles... it died inside, and it was before the great red headed wonder at QB.

Frost might have excelled with the talent we had laying around, especially at RB, WR and TE... compared to what he's working with at Nebraska. In his heart, he knows he made a major mistake that can't be undone. Just like we did.

Another guy content to lose as long as he’s making money. We dodged a bullet with him, were narrowly missed by a grenade in Kelly, but took a bayonet to the back with Mullen. Not sure any of these guys were right, which is why anyone who had them 1-3 should be shown the door. At a minimum, let Spurrier pock the next football guy and tell Stricklin to stay focused on non-score-keeping sports like anti-cisgender water ballon fights.

He would be no worse.... I think his ceiling was much higher than the douche canoe we have, but the floor was lower as well.

It's the Addazio curse. When the program was handed to him during Meyer's hiatus we were instantly locked into long-term mediocrity. How will the curse be lifted?
I have a little secret for you, just between us..

The main reason that Daz sucked is because Mullenz recruiting sucked.

They are the same dude, though Daz recruits better.

In retrospect it seems clear Mullen was the guy all along and the other interviews were for show- “we did our due diligence”. Kelly was never offered. Weeks before the announcement Spurrier said our next coach is still coaching his team. Stricklin is a Miss St guy. It all adds up.

And to add something, Miss St is bad, but they have had bad HCs forever. All Mullen did was show they could improve somewhat with a staff that was decent. Decent was good enough to improve Miss St because they are so bad historically. But decent at Miss St is way below what’s needed at UF. We all see that now anyway.
